General Manager's Weekly Update

The countdown has started for my exit from the Department - August 4th. I've been busy preparing for a smooth transition for the new incoming leadership. I'm also attending the regional coalition meetings for the last time - the South Los Angeles Alliance of Neighborhood Councils being one of them.  As I suggested to SLAANC, I encourage you all to get involved in advising the Mayor/Council on the qualities and qualifications you would like to see in the next General Manager (GM).  You can expect to hear something from the Mayor's office in the coming weeks regarding announcements for the interim leadership as well as the search process for the permanent GM.

This week, Commissioner Paul Park was named the new President for the Board of Neighborhood Commissioners along with Commissioner Shaffer as the Vice President.  Please come out to future Commission meetings in your neighborhood to meet with the new leadership and let them know what you think they should be focusing on to help you do your work better.  A meet and greet event for Commissioner Park will be held on Tuesday, July 31st at 6 pm at the
Glassell Park Community Center - 3750 Verdugo Rd., Los Angeles, CA.  Many thanks and kudos to out-going President Daniel Gatica and Vice President Carlene Davis for their leadership over the past year.

And lastly, the Education and Neighborhoods Committee will be meeting this Tuesday, July 24th at 2 pm on the 10th floor of City Hall.  The agenda has yet to be posted but you can check the City Clerk website or the Council File Management System.

Sincerely,

BongHwan (BH) Kim,

Venice's Beach Tourism Protector

Families going to the beach this summer will have an easier time finding a parking space thanks to Robin Rudisill of the Venice Neighborhood Council (VNC).

LA County officials intended to eliminate 35 parking spaces at the Venice Pier parking lot, but Rudisill convinced them at the last minute...

Term Limits and the 2012 Elections

For those Neighborhood Councils with term limits in their bylaws, please note that they will likely not be applicable for candidates in the 2012 elections.  On March 5, 2010, the Plan for a Citywide System of Neighborhood Councils was changed to read: "Neighborhood Councils may limit the total number of terms that a member of the Governing Body may serve, if the term limitations are set forth in the Neighborhood Council's bylaws after the date this provision was amended."  (Plan, art. III, § 2(c)(ii)(2)(b).)  Any existing bylaws language regarding term limits restarted on that date.  If you have any other questions, please contact the Neighborhood Council Election Hotline at (818) 293-VOTE (8683).
