Urgent Funding Bulletin

Neighborhood Council Purchase Cards will be shut off on Friday, June 15th at 12 noon and Neighborhood Council Budgets for Fiscal Year 2012/2013 are due on Friday, July 13th

A reminder that ALL Purchase Cards will be shut off on Friday, June 15th at 12 noon and will be opened up again on July 2, 2012. This is necessary so the Department can close out and reconcile all outstanding payments in order to meet the Controller's closeout deadline of June 22. For your budgets, we will be sending out an electronic template next week to all Treasurers for use in submitting your budgets to us. The standardized template is mandatory. Your Neighborhood Council funds will be suspended if you do not use the form provided by the Department by the deadline above. Also, we received almost 400 check requests for last month's Demand Warrant deadline.  Our goal is to cut as many checks as possible before the Controller deadline. Our funding staff is working hard to make this happen.  Kudos to them for raising the bar on year-end closing accomplishments.  This will avoid problems we experienced last year with encumberances.

This week, the Board of Neighborhood Commissioners, the only city commission to conduct monthly meetings out in the community,  met on Tuesday evening in the Northeast region.  The agenda included updates on the citywide Neighborhood Council elections, a public hearing on the proposed standards policy which sets out performance standards for all Neighborhood Councils, and recognition of all the Neighborhood Councils in the region celebrating their 10 year anniversary.

A well deserved congratulations to Lincoln Heights, Greater Cypress Park, Eagle Rock, Elysian Valley Riverside, LA-32, Boyle Heights, and Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Councils for your service to Los Angeles and your community!

And lastly, this week was the primary elections for many local and statewide elected positions - I trust that everyone went to the polls to exercise your constitutional right and to warm up for more elections just around the corner, including the Department-run, citywide grassroots elections coming soon to a neighborhood near you!  Remember, YOU decide who represents your Neighborhood Council - not City Hall.  So don't miss this unique opportunity to give your neighborhood a voice.

Sincerely,

I loved it there so much that I decided to do everything I could to work for the people who made it so special. There was a Neighborhood Council election coming up, and I was inspired by the energy of Mr. Stephen Box who was coordinating ours. I took a leap."

Leonora's leadership skills were put to the test when controversy threatened to divide her community... [Continue reading]
