Greetings!

This week we have two important insurance bills being heard in public hearing at the legislature. The first is HB 309, which is a NH CAN Priority. The second is HB 1560, which is vital to the continued well-being of NH's children.

Please read the information below and take action on these important issues for NH's children.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

HB 1560 - Could Kids Access to Healthcare Be Eliminated Next?
It could if HB 1560 passes! HB 1560 allows NH to opt out of all federal health rules and programs, including Medicare, Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP, known here in NH as NH Healthy Kids) and receive block grant funding at 2010 levels! This would jeopardize all protections and benefits currently guaranteed under federal law.  The cuts to these programs would compound the effects of the cuts to our safety net made over the past year.

The public hearing is this Tuesday, March 6 at 2 PM
in the Legislative Office Building, Room 302.  Voices for Health has more information, talking points and a complete fact sheet on their website.

What can you do to help? You can:
2) Contact legislators on the House Commerce Committee and tell them of your concern for children's access to health care through NH Healthy Kids and Medicaid..
3) If you are a recipient of NH Healthy Kids or Medicaid, or know a recipient, encourage them to tell their story to the House committee.

To testify, for help with testimony or for more  information contact Mike Goudzwaard at Voices for Health at (603) 369-4767 extension 3.
Lead Priority: HB 309 - Insurance Parity

As we updated you last week, the Senate Finance Committee holds a public hearing on HB 309, March 8 at 1 PM in the State House, Room 100. HB 309 is the NH CAN lead Health and Wellness Priority.

The amended legislation preserves coverage for Connor's Law and the Early Childhood Mandate, the two pillars on which families rely for insurance coverage for the treatment of autism spectrum disorders and developmental delays. For additional information, please review the 2/23/12 NH CAN Newsletter here.

What can you do to help? You can:

1) Contact Senators and ask them to maintain Connor's Law and the Early Childhood Mandate.

2) If you have been affected by these insurance coverages, please let the Senators know.
