topPriority Update   legislative tracking (Excel)
This promises to be a busy week for advocates at the NH State House. There are three NH CAN Priorities receiving attention  this week by the NH Legislature. CACR 6 and CACR 12 will be voted on by the full Senate, while SB 284 will have a public hearing in the Senate Health and Human Services committee. Information is included on these bills below as well as other scheduled hearings .

NH CAN is tracking Priorities and Past Priorities in the legislative tracking form. This will be updated and posted to the web weekly. If we have omitted a piece of legislation, please bring it to our attention at
johndejoie@yahoo.com .

You can view the legislative tracking form in Excel format .

Health & Wellness  legislative tracking (Excel)
Oral_HealthThe NH CAN Oral Health Access Priority (SB 284)  is scheduled for a hearing this week, February 16, at 1 PM. It is being heard in the Senate Health & Human Services committee. There are 9 Senate co-sponsors, but we are still working to build support on the committee. NH  CAN needs you to contact committee members to tell them of the struggle NH's children have accessing dental care. This will be vital to passage of the bill. Click here for a list of committee members and contact information.

Call committee members and tell them how important access to dental care is for NH's children.

Economic Security   legislative tracking (Excel)
This is  NH CAN's lead Priority for Economic Security.

CACR6CACR 6, which would require a 3/5 vote for any increase to taxes or fees, was scheduled for a vote in the full Senate on 2/8. The vote was postponed because a Senator was missing from the session.

Votes are typically postponed like this, when a close vote is expected. What this means is that your outreach is working! We now have another week to educate Senators of the problems with this bill. Click here to view more information about this bill and to access talking points.

Call your Senator NOW to encourage them to vote against CACR 6 and any amendments.

Education   legislative tracking (Excel)

This is   NH CAN's lead Priority for Education.

CACR12CACR 12, which changes the requirements for the state funding of education, is scheduled for a vote of the full Senate on 2/15.  At that time, an amendment will be introduced, changing the language of the bill. The amendment has reportedly been developed by Senate leadership and the Governor's office. If the amendment passes, the bill will be given back to the House for a vote. The differences in the House and Senate amendments will likely require a Committee of Conference to sort out the final language.

Call your Senator NOW to encourage them to vote against CACR 12 and the amendment.

Accountability Meeting
NH CAN will be holding a follow up to our past accountability conference call. NH CAN has set as a 2012 goal, developing a tool to measure legislator support for NH's children. This committee will be developing the format for this tool and determining which bills to track. We expect to publish this measure in June.

If you are interested, please join us on the conference call next Thursday, February 16 at 10 AM. Email johndejoie@yahoo.com to confirm attendance and receive the call in # and code.
