Economic Security (Legislative Tracking) CACR 6, which would require a 3/5 vote for any increase to taxes or fees, was approved yesterday by the Senate Internal Affairs Committee. This bill is being tracked in NH CAN's lead Priority for Economic Security. The Committee vote was 3-2, with Senator Prescott voting against the bill. Senator Prescott arguing that arguing that the supermajority requirements take power away from the people and diminish the power of their vote. Call your Senator NOW to encourage them to vote against this bill.

Education (Legislative Tracking) The Priority Leader for the lead NH CAN Education Priority, the NH School Administrators Association, has been busy tracking legislation related to education in New Hampshire. Dr. Mark Joyce, NHSAA Executive Director, testified against the following bills related to their Priority:HB 1607-FN-L, establishing an education credit against the business profits tax and SB 372-FN-L Establishing a tax credit against the business profits tax. In other hearings; CACR 12, known as the Education constitutional amendment, was passed yesterday by the Senate Internal Affairs Committee. This amendment, which is being followed as part of the lead Education Priority, will fundamentally alter the ability of the NH Supreme Court to oversee the NH Legislature's funding of education. Senate President Bragdon proposed an amendment to the bill that was accepted by the Senate committee. The Committee vote was 3-2, with Senator Prescott voting against the bill. He argued that this constitutional amendments is in conflict with CACR 6 (above). Call your Senator NOW to encourage them to vote against this bill.
