There is strong evidence that formal code inspections (as opposed to informal code reviews) significantly reduce the number of defects in the source code at an early stage. The main challenge is to make these code inspections as effective as possible and to reduce the burden on critical development resources in today's dynamic and fast-changing development environments.

Bosch uses QA·C++ to assess code quality in open source Robot Operating System (ROS)
ROS (Robot Operating System) is a collaborative, open source initiative comprising of more than twenty institutions. The aim is to enable software developers to build robot applications quickly and easily on a common platform, by providing hardware abstraction, device drivers, libraries, visualizers, message-passing, package management, and more.
