Greetings!  

 

Happy May Day! Our original intention was to speak to the celebratory nature of May - from May Day to Mother's Day to the rites of our local community as we soak in the warmth of the suns rays and languish outdoors in the lingering light. 

 

We're learning day-by-day that life with a 3 year-old is always entertaining, enlightening, and changing. As with many good intentions, ours was sidetracked, by Super Heroes. On any given day we now find ourselves conversing with Spider Man, the Incredible Hulk, Batman and more [though Wonder Woman is not yet welcome]!

And sometimes, oh, just when you don't want a sometimes, you simply have to follow the Super Hero way...

 

KABOOM! That studio door won't get in my way! POW!! Bring it on Triangle Pose! THWACK!!! Camel Pose you're no match for me! 

 

Come story-time, at the end of our action packed days, we've also come to realize that some super heroes really 'own' their words - and encourage us to act responsibly and be accountable for our actions - in Spidey's own words, "With great power, there must also come - great responsibility." It doesn't get much better than this...

In the Words of a Student

 

We recently received the following email from Ashley, we applaud her for allowing us to share it with you.

Hello,

First of all, I would just like to say thank you to you, all of the yoga instructors, and studio employees for all that they do. I started taking classes in December and signed up for a membership in January, though recently I have been sick and haven't been as often as I would like. Bikram Yoga has already impacted my life in such a positive way, which is something that my entire 'being' has been missing. I can finally focus and do things that I have not been able to do for a very long time. I have personally been struggling with an Eating Disorder since High School (I say personally because I have never felt more alone). I 'conquered' it for a few years, served a mission for the LDS church, and came home with my ED controlling my life due to the stress and the toll my mission put on me (the most amazing learning experience, but close to the hardest thing I have ever done.)

Silly me, thinking I need to stay as active as possible as to look my best (or to disappear from the world), I decided to start picking up yoga in place of meal time or to fill my life with something besides spending it with the people who care about me. When something in my mind finally switched over, the realization that life is a gift -- and the ability to learn and grow with each and every yoga practice -- gives me a knowledge that I have accomplished something spectacular every single day. Rather than finding an awkward happiness seeing smaller numbers on the scale, or the ability to will myself to not eat when every part of my body is screaming for care and nourishment (which is ironic because I am a nutrition major), yoga has given me the ability to acknowledge the things around me and not the dark things inside of me. As well as show me how much I actually do appreciate time at the studio.

This life is so much about community and being with the other amazing souls on this earth. I had been taking that life for granted, and while I am fairly good at noticing the positive traits of others, I tend to forget to acknowledge my own good traits, and things as little as being able to hold a pose longer, or being more flexible than I have ever been in my life are small accomplishments I can add to my list each day (rather than caloric intake or checking how much weight I have lost).

I can breath again! Air that has been missing from my soul for too long.

Anyways, this is a very therapeutic type of an email for me, I apologize for the splurge of emotion, but thank you for taking the time to read it. The reasoning for my explanation is just so I can relay to you the impact and overall well being, having a part in your Yoga Studio/Community has provided me. I am honestly so grateful for all that you do and the business you run. Thank you thank you.

Bikram Yoga Sandy was founded in 2003 by Jackie & Alex Wheeler. Jackie began her Bikram Yoga practice in 1996  and graduated from Bikram's Yoga College of India Teacher Training program in 2000.  Alex began his practice in Oregon in 2000 and graduated from teacher training in 2003.
