| Y.O.U. PARTNERS WITH THE FEDERAL RESERVE BANK TO OFFER EMPLOYABILITY BOOT CAMP TO YOUTH |
 | |
Volunteer and Y.O.U. board member, Clark Harvey, helps a youth create a resume. |
Friday, February 3, 2012, about 60 youth participated in a half day intensive event presented by business volunteers and Y.O.U. staff. The Boot Camp, a partnership of Y.O.U. and the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, will provide job-seeking and job-retention skills to at-risk youth in a fast-paced, engaging format. The curriculum will include volunteers guiding youth through creation of a business resume and conducting a mock interview to prepare each youth for a real interview later. Employer expectations and how to keep a job are also covered. Over 25 Y.O.U. and Federal Reserve volunteers and staff worked with youth at the event.
Boot Camp partner, the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, will be the site of the event. About 150 Y.O.U. teens will participate in one of two half day sessions that will be held downtown at the Fed. See more.

JEREMY SOSIN SPEAKS ON BEHALF OF Y.O.U. | |
On January 13th, Y.O.U. board member Jeremy Sosin, Partner, Hartuk & Daroff Co., LLP, spoke at an event convened by Jewish Federation of Cleveland addressing the various approaches to helping at-risk teens succeed. Moderated by Patricia Heilbron, Director of Treu-Mart Youth Development Fellowship Program, the other participants on the panel were: First Lieutenant Mor Peretz, Company Commander, Havat HaShomer;Captain Sami Gabay, Classification Officer, MAKAM; Melanie Falls, Executive Director, Applewood Centers; and Dr. Jennifer Rosenberg, Psychiatrist, Bellefaire-JCB and private practice.
Each year 1,200 young men coming from backgrounds in crime, drugs or disadvantaged communities are dramatically changed at Havat HaShomer, an Israel Defense Force (IDF) base supported by the Jewish Federation of Cleveland's Overseas Connections Committee. Nearly 90% of these recruits progress into army service, with continuing support from the Center for the Advancement of Special Populations. Over the past 30 years, 20,000 at-risk youth have received this "second chance," allowing them to complete their army service, a prerequisite to advancement in Israeli life. |
