Celebrate Alaska Native intellect!
The 29th First Alaskans Institute (FAI) Elders & Youth Conference will be held in Anchorage October 15-17, 2012. The conference stimulates dialogue between young people and Elders and encourages them to maintain traditional Native values and practices while thriving in the modern world.
Participation at the conference has increased over the years, and FAI expects over 1,500 participants to be in attendance this year.
This three-day meeting directly precedes the annual convention of the Alaska Federation of Natives (AFN) and is the only gathering of this magnitude in Alaska.

Stop Bullying Video Challenge |
|
Take the Stop Bullying Video Challenge! This challenge invites youth ages 13-18 to create a 30 to 60 second video that will inform and motivate youth to prevent bullying. This is an opporutnity to showcase ways youth are promoting a culture of kindness and respect in their communities and taking action against bullying.
The contest winner will receive a grand prize of $2,000, with the two runner-ups earning $500 each. Learn more at http://stopbullying.challenge.gov/

Represent US Youth at the United Nations |
The U.S. Youth Observer will have the opportunity to participate in events and activities surrounding the upcoming 67th session of the United Nations General Assembly, including interacting with the U.S. delegation and other youth representatives from around the world. Applicants should be available September 21-28; three to five days in October, and open to occasional travel as possible. He/she will have the opportunity to witness a wide variety of activities while in New York, and should be prepared to share their experiences with youth throughout the United States.
All applications must be submitted by September 7, 2012. |

AES Engineering Scholarship |
AES Engineering is offering a scholarship that will be awarded on the basis of character, as determined by evaluating the essays that are submitted. Thier belief is that a high grade point average should not be the criteria for determining who deserves to be helped. Students must submit an essay of no more than 1000 words in answer to the following question:
What are your dreams for your future? When you look back on your life in thirty years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful?
Graduating seniors do NOT have to enroll in an engineering program.
Amount of award: $500.00
