Youth Alliance for a Healthier Alaska Seeking Members | |
The State of Alaska is seeking dedicated, resourceful and creative teens to provide advisory to the Alaska Division of Behavioral Health on issues affecting teens such as substance abuse, violence, suicide, injury, teen pregnancy, nutrition and fitness. Members will also collaborate on a community action project.
The full application, materials, and letter of recommendation are due May 25th, 2012.

Abbott and Fenner Scholarship Program |
Calling all college-bound juniors and seniors!
The winners of this annual scholarship will receive up to $1,000 each year of college. This scholarship is not based on grades or test scores. It is based on personal experiences!

First in your family to attend college? Check out this scholarship | |

Alaska high school graduates who will be the first in their immediate family to attend a college or university can apply for tuition assistance from the Neal O. Thorpe Memorial Scholarship offered by The Alaska Community Foundation. Applicants must attend, or plan to attend one of 15 eligible colleges or universities in the Pacific northwest.
The scholarship awards $7,500 to the successful applicant's university to cover the student's education expenses. The scholarship may be renewed for up to five years for students in good standing who maintain a 2.5 grade point average.

Alaska State Fair Scholarship Application Due April 20th | |
This year, the Alaska State Fair will award a total of $6,500 in scholarships, including $2,000 for first place, $1,500 for second place and $1,000 for third place. The lucky recipients will be announced on May 1.
All Alaska junior and senior high school students are eligible to apply for a scholarship. Applicants must submit the following items by 4 p.m. on Friday, April 20:
- Cover letter including student name, address, phone and email, school name and phone, counselor's name, and the name of the college or vocational school the student plans to attend
- Extracurricular resume including interests, clubs, community service and/or employment
- Letter of recommendation
- A photo that may be used for publicity purposes
- Written essay (1,000 words or less) OR a creative project (audio, video, performance arts, visual arts, business plan, social media campaign, arts and crafts, photography, etc.) on one of the three topics below
Choose one of the following topics for the essay or creative project:
- How should the Fair grow to serve ALL of Alaska?
- How can the Fair showcase Alaska agriculture in future fairs?
- How would you use a 12-foot by 12-foot booth space at the Fair to educate or entertain the public, raise awareness of issues, or sell goods or services?

Orchestral String Instrument Scholarship Accepting Applications | |
The Frank and Carol Pinkerton Orchestral String Instrument Scholarship is for Alaskan high school seniors who display talent, dedication to music and a serious commitment to an advanced music education study program in a recognized music school, college, or university. Students of violin, viola, cello and string bass are eligible to apply.

Spirit of Youth is dedicated to creating, promoting and recognizing youth involvement in communities across Alaska.
Each year, over 150 youth are nominated for the Spirit of Youth Award. Nominations are made by anyone who wishes to recognize a hard-working, inspiring teenager or youth group in one of 11 award categories.
Spirit of Youth is governed by a board of directors and the Teen Advisory Council.
