Youth Mini Summit on Peace and Equality-

Application Deadline Approaching 

If you are an Alaskan youth, age 13 to age 18, and you want to become a leader in your community, would like to work with youth from across the state, and would like to become a part of promoting peace and equality in your community, Lead On! is for you.

 

Applications for the 2011 Lead On! For Peace and Equality conference are due September 10th, 2011. The conference will be held in Anchorage November 12th-14th, 2011.  

 

Lead On ! is a committed group of youth and adults who work on projects in their communities to promote non-violence and equality. To learn more, visit www.andvsa.org

 

Apply Now for the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards!

If you've made a difference through volunteering over the past year, you could win $1,000 and a fabulous trip to Washington, D.C. next May by applying for a Prudential Spirit of Community Award. Even more importantly, you could win recognition that might inspire other young people to follow your example. These prestigious awards honor middle and high school students at the local, state, and national level solely for their volunteer work.

 

One middle school student and one high school student from Alaska will be selected to win.

 

The application deadline is November 1st, 2011

 2012 U.S. Senate Youth Program- Applications Coming Soon!

The United States Senate Youth Program is a national initiative to provide a yearly opportunity for young people with leadership abilities to deepen their understanding of America's political process and increase their interest in pursuing public service careers. The program will be held March 3-10, 2012 in Washington D.C. Two student leaders chosen from Alaska will meet up with other student delegates in Washington D.C. Students will participate in an intensive week-long educational experience and learn from the highest level elected and appointed officials in Washington.

 

To be eligible to participate, you must be a currently enrolled high school junior or senior student living in Alaska and currently serve in any one of the following government, civic, or educational organizations:

  • Student representative elected or appointed to a district, regional or state-level civic and/or educational organization
  • Student Body President, Vice President, Secretary or Treasurer
  • Class President, Vice President, Secretary or Treasurer
  • Student Council Representative

Spirit of Youth is dedicated to creating, promoting and recognizing youth involvement in communities across Alaska.

Each year, over 150 youth are nominated for the Spirit of Youth Award.  Nominations are made by anyone who wishes to recognize a hard-working, inspiring teenager or youth group in one of 11 award categories.

Spirit of Youth is governed by a board of directors and the Teen Advisory Council.
