Summer of Heroes Scholarship-Deadline Approaching |

Alaska Communications' Summer of Heroes promotes awareness and support for youth development programs throughout the state. Any youth who meet the following criteria can self-nominate or be nominated by someone they know to receive a $1,500 scholarship. This is open to all residents of Alaska ages 6-18.
ACS will recognize five outstanding young heroes who are making a difference in their local communities. They will gift each selected hero a $1,500 scholarship and a trip to the 2011 Alaska State Fair, where they will be recognized in a special ceremony.
Local heroes are defined as someone who has:
- Raised significant funds for a cause
- Saved a person's life
- Made a difference in school through education or sports
- Made a significant contribution to his or her community

Youth Organizers Sought! |

Alaska Youth for Environmental Action (AYEA) is looking for 10 youth from communities across Alaska to sign up for their Youth Organizer position.
Youth in this position will plan and lead projects in their communities around the theme of Wild Alaska Salmon. AYEA staff and Adult Mentors will provide ongoing support and training.
Selected youth will participate in AYEA's Project Planning Summit in Palmer (tentatively scheduled for September 2-4).
