Save the Date for the Conference of Young Alaskans III

The 2012 Conference of Young Alaskans will be held in Juneau January 4-7. Fifty-five representatives from all over the state will convene to discuss past, current and future challenges facing all Alaskans.

The selected delegates will represent the voice of Alaska's next generation of leaders, and the gathering will demonstrate the potential and possibility of Alaskans putting aside their differences to work together for the common good.  As a delegate you could contribute to the discussion of issues specific to Alaskans, the result of which will be a final report to the public.

Applications to be one of 55 delegates will be available in early fall 2011 on Institute of the North's Web site.  For more information contact Carolyn Kinneen .

June 11th is National Get Outdoors Day

Participants from federal agencies, nonprofit organizations and the recreation industry are again teaming up to host the fourth annual National Get Outdoors Day to encourage healthy, active outdoor fun at sites across the nation.

On Saturday, June 11, 2011, participating partners will offer opportunities for families to experience traditional and non-traditional types of outdoor activities. Get Outdoors Day is an annual event to encourage healthy, active outdoor fun.

The prime goals of the day are reaching first-time visitors to public lands and reconnecting our youth to the great outdoors. Check out your local park or forest for activities.

Congratulations on being nominated for recognition from Spirit of Youth. You will receive Spirit of Youth's newsletter each month highlighting community service opportunities, scholarships, and fun activities in Alaska.

Sincerely,

The staff and teens at Spirit of Youth
