| Rural Providers Conference | |
Calling all youth leaders to attend the Annual Rural Providers' Conference held in Dillingham May 30 through June 3, 2011.
The conference embraces and unites traditional Alaska Native knowledge and modern treatment methods in the battle against alcohol and drug abuse and features ceremonies, talking circles and cultural events.
Workshops and general sessions are geared toward people working with rural Alaskans, those in recovery, as well as Elders, youth, and other adults. There will be a special Youth Track for teen engagement, learning and a great experiences! The Youth Track will feature special guest presenters and trainers, a cultural focus and activities. Youth Alliance for a Healthier Alaska | |
Youth Alliance for a Healthier Alaska is a group of diverse, energetic teens ages 14-18 from across Alaska. They are interested in health and are enthusiastic about shaping how the state responds to youth issues that we all experience.
Youth Alliance for a Healthier Alaska (YAHA) is currently seeking innovative, enthusiastic, creative and dedicated Alaskan teens to participate in the 2011-2012 program. Applications are being accepted through April 30th for the 2011-2012 school year.
In the coming session, YAHA will focus on community action projects and provide feedback on Alaskan adolescent health programs.

Lemonade Day is May 1st | |

Lemonade Day is a fun, free, city-wide event where teens and kids get to make and keep the money that they earn. Kids of all ages learn to set goals, develop a business plan, establish a budget, seek investors, provide customer service, and give back to their community.
It's easy!
First, get a free Lemonade Day Backpack that includes the fun and instructive Entrepreneur's Workbook. Then on May 1st, 2011 set up your lemonade stand at the time and location of your choice and sell lemonade to the community.

| Multi-media Contest for the National Wildlife Refuge |

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Wildlife Refuge Association are looking for youth ages 15-24 to tell them what you think about the future of the National Wildlife Refuge System! Multi-media entries should be submitted by May 27, 2011.
Prizes include a trip to Madison, Wisconsin to attend the Conserving the Future conference, gift cards to outdoor recreation stores, and more! The contest entry form and additional information can be found here. |
Take Wing Alaska Job Openings | |
Take Wing Alaska is an immersion program for rural Alaskan high school students. The program is seeking part-time staff for this summer. They are seeking energetic and fun people to be part of the lives of the students attending the Cross-Cultural Campus Immersion Experience. The Immersion takes place from July 6-18th, at Alaska Job Corps in Palmer and the UAA Campus.

Spirit of Youth is dedicated to creating, promoting and recognizing youth involvement in communities across Alaska.
Each year, over 150 youth are nominated for the Spirit of Youth Award. Nominations are made by anyone who wishes to recognize a hard-working, inspiring teenager or youth group in one of 11 award categories.
Spirit of Youth is governed by a board of directors and the Teen Advisory Council.
