Rural Alaska Honors Institute (RAHI)

The Rural Alaska Honors Institute is now accepting applications for their 2011 summer program. RAHI is all about helping students in Rural Alaska make the transition from high school to college. It's at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and is May 31 to July 14. Credits earned during the program also count towards a college degree! High School Salmon Camp

Salmon Camp is a great way to learn about salmon biology, stream and lake ecology and learn how to harness renewable energy. You'll also be able to fish, hike and canoe during camp! Why I Need My Library Teen Video Contest

If you love your library let them know! The American Library Association is sponsoring a contest where you can help win up to $3,000 for your library. To enter, upload a video to YouTube between now and April 18 and tag it with alaneedmylibrary15 if your designated videographer is between the ages of 13-15, or alaneedmylibrary18 if your designated videographer is between the ages of 16-18.

Battle of the Bands

Get your groove on and help you school! Music education in schools in vital and the Battle of the Bands is trying to help you keep it in your school! Here's what you can do: make a music video about music education and then launch an advocacy project in your community. The Grand Prize video will receive $5000 for their school music program and a trip for 5 to New York City to perform at the Do Something Awards! The deadline to submit your video is April 15. Visit dosomething.org for more details.

Spirit of Youth is governed by an outstanding board of directors including educators, business leaders and youth leaders like you!  If you are interested in becoming part of our board please let us know by completing our online application. The deadline to apply is April 1, 2011.

Spirit of Youth is dedicated to creating, promoting and recognizing youth involvement in communities across Alaska.

Each year, over 150 youth are nominated for the Spirit of Youth Award.  Nominations are made by anyone who wishes to recognize a hard-working, inspiring teenager or youth group in one of 11 award categories.

Spirit of Youth is governed by a board of directors and the Teen Advisory Council.
