Congratulations goes out to the over 160 teens and youth groups nominated for the Spirit of Youth award this year! 
 

The annual awards dinner honors 22 of those nominees and takes place March 19th at the Anchorage Marriott. 

 

Tickets go on sale on Spirit of Youth's Web site in late January.

 

We hope to see you there!

$500 Grant for your Service Project

The Alaska Initiative for Community Engagement wants to give you or your youth group money to help complete a service project. Eligible projects will involve youth-adult partnerships that plan and implement community-based service activities. Check the AKICE Web site for more information.  Act fast the deadline is February 1, 2011.

Creative Minds Wanted

The Alaska Association of Student Governments is seeking your creative contribution!  Create and share a video, song, poem, art project or skit with a positive message about making healthy choices and you may be eligible to win cash and prizes worth $2000. 

 

Alaska residents ages 14-18 who are currently in school are encouraged to download an application from the AASG site and then post their work to YouTube and tag it AASG Spring Leadership Contest. Visit the Web site for more details.

Make sure to get your entry in before April 15, 2011.

AASG Suicide Prevention Contest

Got a Novel in You?

Art& Writing

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are seeking entries for their student novel competition.  All students in grades 7-12 are eligible. 

 

The winners' stories will be included in a national publication and the authors will be eligible for a number of scholarships. Visit the art and writing.org Web site and click "register" to get started. If you need some inspiration check out these helpful tips. Hurry the deadline February 25, 2011!

Spirit of Youth is governed by an outstanding board of directors including educators, business leaders and youth leaders like you!  If you are interested in becoming part of our board please let us know by completing our online application.  The deadline to apply is April 1, 2011.

Spirit of Youth is dedicated to creating, promoting and recognizing youth involvement in communities across Alaska.

Each year, over 150 youth are nominated for the Spirit of Youth Award.  Nominations are made by anyone who wishes to recognize a hard-working, inspiring teenager or youth group in one of 11 award categories.

Spirit of Youth is governed by a board of directors and the Teen Advisory Council.
