January 20, 2012

Greetings!

The winter months are upon us!

We love to celebrate this time of year with our annual Fun Family February activities.  Each year, the school participates in various endeavours to join together as a family and participate in the season.

The students will be having dress up Fridays, and carnival day. Two weekend dates are scheduled for family skating and sledding.  Also, the government has given us a holiday Monday as well!!

During the month, the grade 8 class manages two fund raising activities for their graduation trip. First, the carnival is a fun packed day  of games and food for the students.  Secondly, the whole month is a penny/loose change drive, with class prizes and events.

We trust that all the events will be seen as a positive way of working our way through the winter months.  Join us where you can!

Yours in His Service,

Carnival Day

Get ready for our annual Carnival Day hosted by the Grade 8 class.  This year's carnival will be held on Friday, March 2, 2012.  This is a day where the entire school participates with Junior and Senior Kindergarten and Grade 1's in the morning and the rest of the school in the afternoon. There will be games, challenges, a 20-foot slide, a jumping castle, popcorn and cotton candy!  All proceeds will go to their grad trip.  This cost is as follows: $6.00 for the all-day pass, $1.00 for cotton candy and bake sale items for $1.00 or less.  This day finishes up our February Fun Fridays which were created to help chase away those winter blues.

Cold Weather

Now that the cold weather has arrived please make sure that your children are dressed for the weather,  Hats, mitts/gloves, boots and snow pants (especially when there is snow).  You might want to include an extra pair of socks and mitts in their backpacks in case their socks or mitts get wet.  Please note that the wind in the back playground can be very cold.

Snow Mode Day

If there is a severe snow or ice storm during the winter, it is possible that PCS will need to call a "Snow Mode Day".  This means school is still open but working on a modified schedule.  School hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. with no Before or After School Club.  Regular classes will be modified as a result of fewer teachers being able to reach the school safely.  Notification of a "Snow Mode Day" will occur on the front page of our website (www.pickeringcs.on.ca), by an automatic parent alert system or a phone call from our volunteer team.  If you listen to FM KX96 (95.9) or check their website (www.kx96.fm) and they announce "All Durham Buses Have Been Cancelled" this also indicates a snow mode day.

Lost And Found
The lost and found is all laid out on tables in the back hall.  Please drop by to have a look.   Also remember to label all your children's clothing to ensure that they are returned if misplaced.
