Greetings!
This has been an incredible week of giving! Thank you for supporting the school in these 2 endeavours.
 Haiti School Bags
What a generous outpouring occurred over the last week as we saw over 150 bags collected to send to Haiti. The school supplies will be cherished! We were informed that teachers stand in line for hours to receive 1 (one) pencil. Can you imagine the joy when they are presented with these bags?? Thank-you for your support. Our bags will join with other ACSI schools and be shipped in the coming weeks.
 Scholastic Book Fair
After several years absence, PCS brought back the Scholastic Book Fair. Many parents, grandparents, friends and students were able to purchase a variety of books and materials. Due to the overwhelming response, PCS will nett over $2,500 in new books for our library as well as other curriculum-related material for the classrooms. Thank you for being part of this activity.
Yours in His Service,
P.D. Ogborne, Ed.D.

Safe Arrival Program
As part of our safe arrival program, attendance is taken first thing in the morning. If your child is away or late, please leave a message at extention 21. This really helps speed up the process. If a childs absence has not been reported to the office, calls will be made home and then to the parents' workplace in order that we can know where students are at all times. Thank you for helping make our safe arrival program work efficiently.

Campbell's Food Labels
Dear PCS Family:
Over the last several years, PCS has been participating in the "Campbell's Labels for Education" program. This program allows us to collect labels from various Campbell's products and submit them for points which are accumulated and then redeemed for free educational resources for the school. The items available to the school range from books to sports equipment to electronics like computers (depending on the amount of label points we collect). In the past, we have been able to acquire sports equipment, art and music supplies, and an overhead projector - ALL COMPLETELY FREE!
The LIST OF ELIGIBLE LABELS HAS INCREASED (check out the listing on the website link to see what's now included - don't just think soup!!!)
http://www.labelsforeducation.ca/english/eligible_exp.asp
***VERY IMPORTANT: THE UPC and FRONT OF THE LABEL MUST BE INCLUDED INTACT, TO BE COUNTED FOR MOST ITEMS (UPC only for Ready to Use Broths & Pepperidge Farm Products, CAPS/LIDS for beverages and bowl products - AGAIN, CLICK ON THE WEBSITE LINK FOR THE LISTING AS IT STATES WHAT IS REQUIRED) ***
We encourage you to participate in this program and to help PCS earn points for free school supplies. It's so easy to do - just cut off the labels of any of the eligible products and send them into the school with your children. Perhaps ask friends and family to collect too. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 905-427-3646.
Thank you for your participation and support.
Yours in His Service,
Cecilia Mills

Reminders
PoinsettiasDon't forget poinsettia orders have to be in by Thursday, November 17, 2011. See note below about poinsettias and pets. Keep toxic florals out of your pet's reach Caution must be used when choosing to decorate your home with holiday florals, such as m istletoe and holly berries, which can be potentially toxic to pets. Should a cat or dog eat mistletoe, they could suffer gastrointestinal upset and cardiovascular problems. Holly can cause vomiting, nausea, diarrhea and lethargy if ingested. Common holiday plants such as poinsettias are considered to be very low in toxicity, but they can still cause mild vomiting or nausea, if ingested by your pet, and can irritate your pet's mouth. Lilies, appearing in many holiday floral arrangements, can cause kidney failure in cats. Beware of toxic varieties including: Asian, Casa Blanca, Japanese Show, Stargazer and Tiger. You may want to consider silk or plastic floral arrangements as a safe alternative, or placing plants out of reach of your pet. http://www.ontariospca.ca/4-carefactsheets-safety-6.shtml M agazine Orders

Snow Mode Day
If there is a severe snow or ice storm during the winter, it is possible that PCS will need to call a "Snow Mode Day". This means school is still open but working on a modified schedule. School hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. with no Before or After School Club. Regular classes will be modified as a result of fewer teachers being able to reach the school safely. Notification of a "Snow Mode Day" will occur on the front page of our website (www.pickeringcs.on.ca), by an automatic parent alert system or a phone call from our volunteer team. If you listen to FM KX96 (95.9) or check their website (www.kx96.fm) and they announce "Durham Buses Have Been Cancelled" this also indicates a snow mode day.
