Issue: #2-1October 2011

Greetings!

Hard to believe that we are at the end of October.  Time flies when yourWalkathon

having fun; I guess.  We hope that this edition of the PCS Communicator finds you well.  God continues to amaze and bless us here at PCS.  We have entered into this year, once again breaking our all time enrollment record, having welcomed 24 new families and been blessed with 222 students.

This year's theme at PCS is R.A.C.E., Running After Christ's Example, and is based on Hebrews 12:1-2 which encourages us to " throw off everything that hinders and run with perseverance the race marked out for us..."  The students are busy learning about the example that Christ left for us to follow and the training required to run the race well.

Students have had the opportunity to participate in a large number of fall sports including soccer, cross country and flag football, with volleyball now in full swing as well.  We also completed our annual Walk-a-thon, (our only student-led and largest fundraising activity for the year), at the end of September and after counting up all the pledges and donations, I am pleased to announce that we raised just under $34,000 of our ultimate goal of $40,000.  If you are interested in trying to help us reach our goal, you can do so by either making a donation online at our website, sending an email, or giving us a call.

Some of you may have also been in attendance for our recent Grandparents & Special Friends Day held just this past week.  It was a great day with lots of fun and lots of great soup!!  Next week you will find some pictures from that event, as well as our sports teams and walk-a-thon, out on our newly designed website:  www.pickeringcs.on.ca

As we move into the late fall/early winter months, we pray that the Lord will watch over you and keep you safe and healthy.  Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers for the teachers and students here at PCS.

God Bless

What's Going on at PCS

The three volume movie installment of this epic comic series has initiated a vocabulary of machines both good and bad. As they seek to destroy each other, earth becomes their battleground.

I can't help but hear the words of Romans 12:1-2 echo as I contemplate this word "Transform". Once again, a twist has been put on a word that depreciates its true meaning. Unlike the action figures that change form and then change back again, the Biblical meaning is more demanding. (To read the full article, click on the title above.)

Our Daily Bread A FIRM Foundation
Recently, we came across this daily devotional by Dave Branon in Our Daily Bread, © 2011 by RBC Ministries, Grand Rapids, MI.  After reading this article, we really felt it was a great description of why we as a school exist. It also does a great job of explaining why we do what we do. To read the devotional, click on the title above.
whychristianschools.ca Many families in your church or community may have asked this of you. A new resource has been created to help you provide answers to this question on the website www.whychristianschools.ca .  On this site, family and friends can view video clips of Christian parents as they talk about their experiences with Christian schools. Viewers can listen as families share their own journeys, questions and decisions. They can also discover how families can work in partnership with their teachers in raising up their child in the knowledge of God in all things. Click on the link above, or the logo, to see the website firsthand and take some time to consider who you can tell about it.
Poinsettia

The ageless Christmas favourite, the Poinsettia, makes an excellent addition to any room, desk or tabletop. Your PCS grade eight students are selling Poinsettias. We have selected Rekker Gardens, a local nursery, which is well known for the highest quality plants at reasonable prices. Care instructions will be included with the plants.

ORDERS MUST BE RECEIVED WITH PAYMENT BEFORE THURSDAY NOVEMBER 17, 2011.

We hope you have enjoyed this issue of the PCS Communicator.  Look for the next issue in December.  If you have any ideas for articles or information you would like to hear about, please feel free to contact me at dpark@pickeringcs.on.ca . We want to make sure that the info we pass on is the info you want to hear about.

On a closing note, I would also like you to consider a few things.  As you heard above, PCS is hitting record numbers of attendance, and that truly is a great blessing.  You, our supporters in prayer and finances, are a big part of that.  You know and understand why PCS exists and what we are trying to accomplish through the school.  Word of mouth, or a referral if you will, is not only the greatest compliment, but the greatest form of advertising.  Please keep that in mind when talking with your connections, be it for schooling of their children or worthy events which they can help support. Our next Open House is scheduled for Sunday, November 20th, from 2:00- 4:00 p.m.  If you know of someone interested in Christian education, we would love to have them visit.

On behalf of all the staff and students here at the school, thank you for your continued interest, prayers and support.  God Bless.

Sincerely,

Mr. David Park

In the spring of 2010 PCS launched the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) with the goal of acquiring 75 sponsors.

As of October 24, 2011, we have 20 sponsors pledged for the current year.

If you would like to become a sponsor for the low cost of $40/month and extend the " impact " that PCS can have,  please contact Mr. Dave Park.
