Hitting the Books |

It's back to school time! Many of you are probably prepared with new books and tablets, laptops, and study guides... but have you remembered to put a new pair of eyelets or plugs on that back to school shopping list? Why not a new navel curve too? People who wear Anatometal are smarter. It's a proven fact! Who wouldn't want to give themselves that extra edge in class this year?
Wearing jewelry made from implant grade materials and hand polished to that famous mirror finish is clearly the way to go. You don't need a masters in fine arts to see the beauty in a hand-set Gemmed Eyelet. And it doesn't take a genius to see the superiority of internal threading which we use on all of our threaded designs. We put extra effort into ensuring your jewelry is flawless so you don't have to ever worry about it and can concentrate on hitting those books.
Do yourself a favor this semester and hop on over to our main site , our Facebook , and our Tumblr pages every once in while to check out all our newest styles and for a little fun! Do your friends a favor and send them our way too!

Meet Anatometal
| We know how much you love your Anatometal and what it stands for: handcrafted right here in the USA, made with only the highest quality materials. There is so much that goes into each piece as it moves from our machine shop, to the polishing room, to the gold room, through quality assurance, packaging, and to our shipping department. We thought you would like to get to know the people who make that Gemmed Eyelet, Heart Navel Curve, and Nostril Screw possible! In the coming months, we will be invading all the departments here at Anatometal Headquarters and bringing our hard workers right to you! This month we bring you... From The Gold Room, meet Alex!
Anatometal: What do you do here at Anatometal? Alex: I am a gem-setter. Anatometal: How long have you worked for Anatometal? Alex: Ooooo that's a good question, I think it's been about six months now.
Anatometal: What is your favorite piece that Anatometal makes? Alex: Anything gold! The real 18k solid yellow gold, not the anodized titanium. I am a gold fiend.
Anatometal: Tell us three things about yourself. Alex: Three things? Ummmm, what do other people say? Ok... I am painfully obsessed with jewelry, like it is a real problem. I am a big movie buff, my three favorites would have to be Magnolia, The Fall, and Down on the Water Front. Third thing would be that I make organic body jewelry when I am not at Anatometal.
Anatometal: Ninjas or Pirates? Alex: Ninjas. Absolutley. Pirates are dead in the water.
Thanks for letting us get to know you a bit Alex! Who will be featured next month? Be sure to check back to find out!

Terminology
| In writing articles for our newsletter every month, we realized that we often use terminology that may not be familiar to people who don't work in the body jewelry or modification industry. We thought this month we would take some time to clear that up:
Gauge: The thickness of the material the jewelry is made of. This measurement is based on and only applicable when using the U.S. wire measurement system. Body jewelry is also measured in millimeters and fractions/inches.
Diameter: The distance across a circle (Captive Bead Rings, Circular Barbells) through its center point.
 | Solid stock
 |
Titanium tubing.
|
stainless steel.
|
Solid Stock: Materials like stainless steel, titanium, and niobium can be purchased as solid pieces of metal. Body jewelry can then be machined out of these solid rods; Anatometal machines all of our jewelry out of solid stock (unless they are cast pieces).
Tubing: Hollow pipe made of materials such as stainless steel and titanium which can be cut and bent into body jewelry.
Casting: A manufacturing process by which a liquid material is usually poured into a mold, which contains a hollow cavity of the desired shape, and then allowed to solidify. Casting is most often used for making complex shapes that would be otherwise difficult or uneconomical to make by other methods.
Bio-compatible: A material; natural or synthetic, with "the quality of not having toxic or injurious effects on biological systems" (Dorland 2003). Examples of bio-compatible materials are titanium, PTFE, stainless steel, niobium, and silicone; however, all must be of medical-grade for use in an implant or piercing jewelry.
Anneal: To heat metal to a set temperature for a set time with the goal of removing all stress points and hardenings. Annealed rings are easier to open and less brittle.
Anodize: An electrolytic passivation process used to increase the thickness of the natural oxide layer on the surface of metal parts. Anodizing a piece of metal changes the texture of that metal which in turn changes how you see it (ie. the color).
Synthetic Gemstones: Gemstones manufactured in labs to possess identical chemical and physical characteristics to the naturally occurring variety. Whether a gemstone is a natural stone or a lab-created (synthetic) stone, the characteristics of each are the same. The most noticeable difference between the two, is lab-created stones tend to have a more vivid color
