letter off with a huge shout out and thank you to everyone who participated in the First International Body Piercing Day on June 28th!! We don't  know about you, but we had tons of fun watching all the photos of you guys and your piercers popping up all over the event page and the Anatometal Facebook page. Don't worry if you missed them, we have compiled an album of all the fabulous pictures we received so you can enjoy them year round! We already have big plans for 2012 and are looking forward to watching this event grow in the years to come.

With the end of summer right around the corner, we are gearing up for a big fall season here at Anatometal. We are anticipating the release of more jewelry for our new "tactical" line (you boys did say you wanted more manly jewelry right?). We will also be releasing our second ever print catalog. Did you miss out on our Summer Edition? If you would like one, simply email [email protected] with a request. We promise you won't be disappointed!

With so many new items being created and released on a daily basis, we know it's hard to keep up! This newsletter, Facebook , Tumblr , and Anatometal.com  are all great places to catch up on news and happenings. Don't be shy if you can't find answers to questions you may have on the above listed sites, contact us any time, we love hearing from you!

Meet Anatometal

Jake We know
how much you love your Anatometal and what it stands for: handcrafted right here in the USA, made with only the highest quality  materials. There is so much that goes into each piece as it moves from our machine shop, to the polishing room, to the gold room, through quality assurance, packaging, and to our shipping department. We thought you would like to get to know the people who make that Gemmed Eyelet, Heart Navel Curve, and Nostril Screw possible! In the coming months, we will be invading all the departments here at Anatometal Headquarters and bringing our hard workers right to you!
This month we bring you...

From Polishing, meet Jake
!

Anatometal:
What do you do here at Anatometal?
Jake:  I polish jewelry... very well I hear.

Anatometal: How long have you worked for Anatometal?
Jake:  Oh... over two years now. Two plus!

Anatometal: What is your favorite piece that Anatometal makes?
Jake:  Now that is a loaded question! Ummm I would have to say our Super Teardrop Eyelets .

Anatometal: Tell us three things about yourself.
Jake: Ooo. I just started surfing, I really enjoy music (especially the Beatles), and I know this is going to sound super staged... but I really enjoy coming to work and hanging out with everyone who works at Anatometal.

Anatometal:
Ninjas or Pirates?
Jake:  I'm going to have to go with Ninjas on that one.

Thanks for letting us get to know you a bit Jake! Who will be featured next month? Be sure to check back to find out!
Shop Etiquette

Whether you are visiting a piercing/tattoo studio to get a new piercing, shopping for jewelry, or just accompanying a friend, you should be aware of proper shop etiquette (it does exist)! Because of the laid back, friendly atmosphere many studios maintain, it is easy to lose sight of the fact that you are patronizing a business and that there are potential biohazard risks all over the place!   sign

Before you even reach the studio, there are a few things you should keep in mind:

- Double check that you have a valid photo ID on your person.
 - If you are planning on getting a piercing, be sure to eat something within 4 hours of the procedure.
 - If you are planning on getting a genital or nipple piercing, showering beforehand is greatly appreciated! And remember what mom always says: "don't leave the house in dirty underwear".
 - If you are planning on getting a tongue piercing, brushing your teeth before reaching the studio is recommended.
 - Be completely sober.

While in the studio (any part of the studio: the counter, the bathroom, in the waiting area, the piercing room) it is very important to not touch your piercing! Even if the fistula is healed, you can spread bacteria, endangering the staff and other customers. Along the same lines, if you are bringing worn jewelry into the shoshop p, be sure to seal it in a plastic bag. It is also important to never place worn jewelry on the counter or display area of the shop. It is never ok to change your jewelry on your own in any part of a studio for the same reason as listed above: bacteria is easily spread. If you just can't wait to get that awesome new piece of jewelry in, ask the piercer! They will gladly switch out your new bling for the old in a safe and clean environment.

Once you are ready to go and are in the piercing room, let your piercer direct you on where to place your personal effects; some areas of the room may be reserved as sterile spaces. You also want to check with your piercer before you or your friend whip out a camera and start snapping away. You wouldn't want someone taking your picture without asking permission first right?
thank you
So your piercing is done and it's time to pay, now what? It is not polite to haggle with your piercer on pricing. Don't forget, you are in someone's place of business, this is how they make their living! In the  body modification industry, you really do get what you pay for. We know times are tough for many people out there nowadays but remember, tipping is always appreciated. With that said, you can tip in many different ways! If you don't have extra cash, bake your piercer some cookies! Even a small thank you note is appreciated. We know more then a few shops that post thank you cards on their bulletin boards for everyone to see. They wear those pieces of paper like badges of honor. Piercers also love to see their work healed. Coming back in after a month or two to show them your piercing is a thrill! A small show of gratitude goes a long way.

By keeping all these things in mind the next time you head out to your favorite local piercing/tattoo studio, you will easily create a stress free and fun experience for both you and your piercer! Many people form long lasting relationships with their local piercer and following these guidelines is a great place to start!
Anatometal in the news
We are proud and honored to be a part of this project and to have participated in the development of such an amazing system:

'Tongue Drive System' Controls Wheelchair, Computer

Quadriplegics may gain a new degree of freedom via their tongues, if a new control system becomes widely available.

The new system uses that famously strong, agile and sensitive muscle, the tongue, to provide computer accessibility and wheelchair control to severely disabled people.

Designed by researchers for people with debilitating spinal cord injuries and diseases, the tongue-drive tech takes advantage of the nearly direct connection between the tongue and the brain via cranial nerves, which makes it particularly likely to remain functional, even after severe accidents.

The system has two parts: a small magnet, attached to the tip of the tongue via adhesive, piercing or implantation, and a headset with two three-dimensional magnetic sensors mounted on it. The headset picks up the location of the tongue via the magnet and transmits that information to a smartphone.

Tonguedrive43_md
Maysam Ghovanloo, the lead Georgia Tech researcher, designed software that converts the position of the tongue into joystick or mouse movements, allowing the severely disabled to control a wheelchair or computer. The setup could provide an unprecedentedly simple and powerful means of locomotion for the disabled.

"This device could revolutionize the field of assistive technologies," Ghovanloo said in a release.
