Meet Anatometal
We know how much you love your Anatometal and what it stands for: handcrafted right here in the USA, made with only the highest quality materials. There is so much that goes into each piece as it moves from our machine shop, to the polishing room, to the gold room, through quality assurance, packaging, and to our shipping department. We thought you would like to get to know the people who make that Gemmed Eyelet, Heart Navel Curve, and Nostril Screw possible! In the coming months, we will be invading all the departments here at Anatometal Headquarters and bringing our hard workers right to you! So for our very first introduction...
From The Gold Room, Meet Tony Henderson!

Anatometal: What do you do here at Anatometal?
Tony: I am the head gem setter.

Anatometal: How long have you worked for Anatometal?
Tony: Almost 16 years, I will hit 16 years in January.

Anatometal: What is your favorite piece that Anatometal makes?
Tony: Right now? The Flower Nostril Screws, those are just amazing. It changes though because we are always coming out with something new. I have however, always loved our Gemmed Eyelets, I mean, those are just... wow. Incredible.

Anatometal: Ninjas or Pirates?
Tony: Ummmm, I'm sorry... What?
Anatometal: *laughs* You know... What side are you on?
Tony: Oh definitely ninjas.

Thanks for letting us get to know you a bit Tony! Who will be featured next month? Be sure to check back to find out!
 Why Internal Threading?
Internal Threading 101:
You all know that internally threaded jewelry is the best choice for an initial piercing because you hear it all the time from organizations like the Association of Professional Piercers (APP) and companies like Anatometal who take great pride in the quality of the body jewelry they produce, but do you really know the reasons behind all the hubbub?

First, let's look at exactly what threads are and what body jewelry you will find them on: A thread is a spiral ridge that winds around the jewelry much like on a bolt or on the inside of a nut. To create a closure, there must be a male end (screw) that fits into a female hole. Jewelry that will have threads are pieces like navel curves, flat back labrets, microdermals, and barbells; straight, curved and circular just to name a few.

Internally threaded jewelry houses a threaded hole inside of the jewelry and the male, external screw is found on the ball or decorative end. This means the barbell is smooth when inserted into the piercing. Externally threaded jewelry is the opposite with the thread actually on the barbell and the hole in the ball. This means when the jewelry is passed through a piercing, the threads pass through as well. Ouch!

While having internally threaded jewelry inserted in a fresh piercing is clearly more comfortable due to the smooth surface vs. the raw surface of externally threaded pieces, this is not it's only benefit. Bacteria can reside in the nooks of the threading which come in contact with the piercing if externally threaded jewelry is being used. New piercings are susceptible to irritation and infection which can cause a whole range of problems and using externally threaded jewelry only increases that risk.

The comfort of your body jewelry should be high on your priority list, but your health should certainly be at the top. Using internally threaded jewelry with initial piercings greatly increases your chance of healing quickly and issue free. Internally threaded jewelry does cost more, but that is because it is more difficult to manufacture and when it really comes down to it, can you put a price on your health?

Infection Vs. Irritation

The Question:  How do I know if my piercing is infected??

The Answer:
What many people think is an infection may actually be an irritation to the piercing from outside sources.  If you have a new piercing that is going through the healing process, you may see things such as swelling, discharge and dried, crusted matter- don't panic!

Infections can be caused from poor hygiene, contact with bacteria (stop touching it!), or overall bad quality of jewelry (you get what you pay for in life).

Some warning signs of infection:
*Warm to the touch at piercing site
*Running a fever
*Colored discharge

Irritations can be a result of bumping the piercing, body wash, soap, or shampoo (make sure you properly rinse these away if they come in contact).  Again, poor polish and overall bad quality jewelry are other contributors to this.

Some signs of irritation:
*Crust
*Discharge
*Swelling and/or redness

Remember: It is important to communicate with your piercer before, during and after you have your piercing done so that you will be properly informed as to what you may expect during your healing period.  Also, know your body - if you think you may have an infection, your best bet is to visit a Medical Professional.
