Meijer to Launch Major Michigan, Ohio RemodelsMeijer will invest more than $75 million in a major remodeling project for stores in Michigan and Ohio. This initiative focuses on 10 stores in key locations throughout the region - eight in Michigan and two in. Planning has already begun in a number of stores and project completion is slated for the end of the year. Meijer also plans to open two new stores in 2011. Since 2006, Meijer has opened 30 new stores and remodeled more than 60 others.

RE/MAX Looking to Set up Offices in Connecticut Stop & Shop StoresRE/MAX of New England announced its first "micro real estate" office inside a New England Stop & Shop supermarket, adding that it plans to set up such offices in Connecticut over the next year. The first office was opened at a Stop & Shop in Springfield, Mass. Besides Connecticut and Massachusetts, RE/MAX also plans to open Stop & Shop offices in Rhode Island and New Hampshire.

Publix Says its Curbside Grocery Test is SuccessfulThe experiment at Publix to offer online ordering and curbside pickup of groceries is going so well, executives are declaring it a success only part way through a year-long test. The grocer is finding shoppers are regularly driving up for curbside pickup on their biggest shopping days at the two locations where they have the pilot service. Publix plans to expand the service, starting with one more in the Atlanta area.

Offering chocolates, fake tuna and even dog food, the store is hoping to cash in on a small but rapidly growing market. Vegilicious, which opened on February 26, occupies over 100 square meters in the city-centre.

Online Grocery Sales 'Will Double within Five Years'Britain's Internet grocery market will double to £9.9bn by 2015, research group IGD forecast on Thursday. IGD said sales online continue to grow at a faster rate than any other sector in the grocery market, with growth of 21.4pc in 2010 to £4.8bn. One in four food and grocery manufacturers is considering creating its own e-store, the report found, with 43pc of manufacturers anticipating that more than 10pc of their total revenue to come from the online sales by 2015.

Shoplifter Unwittingly Offers Theft Tips to Loss Prevention Officer
A Loss Prevention Officer (LPO) inside Sears observed a man acting suspiciously. The LPO subsequently moved closer in an effort to get a better vantage point of the man's activities. The LPO began to browse a display of memory cards, pretending to be another customer. Unexpectedly, the suspect approached the LPO, pulled out a knife, and cut the security device off of the memory card the LPO had been holding. He explained to the LPO that he could now remove the item from the store without detection. The man then proceeded to push a cart full of power tools out of the store without paying for them.
