The Smallest Walmart in the World Opened Friday

A one-of-a-kind Walmart opened on Friday in Fayetteville - a 3,500-square-foot store located in the Garland Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas.  A pharmacy is in the store as well as general retail items.

Men Gain Control of the Grocery Cart

More than half of men now control the shopping cart as women have lost ground in the grocery store. The current recession has pushed many men who've worked in construction, manufacturing and traditionally male occupations out of work. As such, they've been forced to take on more domestic duties. Couple that with the fact that gender roles are already shifting, and you've got more men doing the grocery shopping. It's now at 51% of males aged 18 to 64 doing the shopping.

Pao de Acucar Q4 Same-Store Sales Falter on Foods

Grupo  Pao de Acucar, Brazil's largest diversified retailer, said growth of same-store sales slowed in the fourth quarter as sales of foodstuffs and fuels lost momentum. New stores opened fell short of the 100-store goal announced last year by "around some 40-something stores," partly because of a plan to transform some store formats into the fast-growing Extra Super neighborhood supermarket store.

Suspects in Several Thefts Roll Cart Out of Target and Into Cops

A theft ring that made a habit of stealing from Target stores picked the wrong time to be fleeing their latest mark.  Boulder County deputies had just pulled into the parking lot of a Target store to check out a stolen car when they saw three suspicious men.  The men were pushing a shopping cart bulging with stolen electronics equipment they had just swiped from the Target.  As it turns out, they were headed to the same car that had been reported as being stolen.
