Hello, and welcome back to Laser Insights, the quarterly newsletter focused on insights from the laser scanning community.

The laser market rebounded strongly in 2010 and all signs point to a positive outlook for 2011.  Photonics West kicked off the year, it was bigger than ever and the energy was terrific.

Surfboard Recently the PC has become increasingly unwelcome in the automated environment due to concerns with reliability, tampering, connection problems and the space required for the keyboard and screen.

Nutfield now offers the Surfboard II which can run either with the PC or completely stand alone. Up to 256 job files can be created and transferred to the card and jobs selection can be managed via hardware IO. The hardware IO can be configured to interact with other devices for handshaking and synchronizing functions, and can control motion devices such as XY tables and rotary axes.
