The Diaper-a-Day campaign has officially lauched!
Help Iowa Health - Des Moines donate diapers for DMARC's Food Pantry Network. Beginning August 1 through September 30, for every Facebook Like and Twitter Follow, they will donate a diaper to the DMARC. Hiroshima/Nagasaki Anniversary Observance is August 6
"From Hiroshima to Fukushima: the Nuclear Question" will be the theme of the annual Hiroshima/Nagasaki observance at the Japanese Bell on the capitol grounds at 7:30 p.m. Monday, August 6. The bell is west of the Iowa Judicial Building on the south side of Court Ave. on the capitol grounds. Grace Amemiya, of Ames, will speak about her experiences at a Japanese internment camp during World War II. Iowa Rep. Dan Kelley, of Newton, will speak about the connection between Hiroshima and Fukushima. The public is invited. Bring lawn chairs for your comfort, and flowers from your gardens to place around the bell as each person tolls it. Faith in a Changing Climate Conference is August 23
Please mark your calendars for Iowa Interfaith Power & Light's second annual "Faith in a Changing Climate" conference on Thursday, August 23, 2012, from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, 4126 Ingersoll Ave., Des Moines, Iowa, 50312. Keynote speakers are: Matthew Anderson, executive director of the National Religious Partnership on the Environment and Holly Bressett, deputy director for the Sierra Club's Beyond Coal Campaign with a focus on several Central-region states. There will be news of a new "Food, Faith, and Climate" program that Iowa IP&L is launching to help people of faith connect the dots between their faith, their food choices, and climate change - and how we can lower our carbon "foodprint." Any widowed person is welcome to join this group which meets every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., at the Olive Garden, 3600 Westown Pkwy., West Des Moines. Volunteers - DMARC Food Pantry Warehouse, Des Moines
We need help with our farmer's market produce delivery on Saturdays from 1-3 p.m. We also need volunteers on Friday mornings from 8-10 a.m. Are you able to lift 40-50 lbs. and put it in our warehouse cooler? Music Director - Windsor Presbyterian Church, Windsor Heights
Part-time, about 4 hours per week for an individual to lead music in worship, direct the choir (about 10 members) and work with the pastor to shape the worship services. Who are we?
The Des Moines Area Religious Council is an interfaith organization with a core membership of about 130 congregations from ten faith traditions. Recipient of the 2010 Aurora Award from The Des Moines Register, DMARC provides a common means of responding to basic human needs and a context for interfaith dialogue.
The DMARC Food Pantry Network consists of 12 separate pantry sites, a centralized warehouse, and numerous community partners. It is the largest food pantry network in Iowa. Pantry sites are located in West Des Moines, Ankeny, Johnston, Urbandale, and eight sites in Des Moines. In 2011, the DMARC Food Pantry Network assisted over 33,000 people.
MovetheFood is a DMARC-led initiative to address the entire food system in Greater Des Moines, building on more than 35 years of the Food Pantry Network, catalyzing fresh generations, and engaging new constituencies to further support a vision for a day when everyone in Polk County has enough to eat. |
