REASONS TO CONSIDER
A WINTER REMODEL
Do you have a remodeling project that you'd like to get done before the Holidays?
This tends to be a slow time of year for construction, which means that prices are often low and contractors are hungry for work.
You'll get a better bang for the buck. Now might be good time to contact your contractor.
If you're thinking about a home remodeling project, here are a few reasons why winter may be the best time to do your project:
Availability. During the winter you may find that your contactor has more time to work with you in planning and designing your project. This would be a good time for refining the details before the work begins. This process may take longer as work picks up for your contractor in the spring.
Avoid Spring Price Increases. Now is the time to look for and take advantage of reduced prices. If you're remodeling your home, you may find close-out deals on materials. During the winter, manufacturers may feature special offers to reduce inventory. Typically, we experience price increases for lumber products, windows and cabinets in the spring.
Outdoor Projects. Although people don't often think of doing outdoor projects in the winter, in California we are blessed with good weather and are often able to perform outdoor work. This could be a good time to start that outdoor kitchen or entertainment area!

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR
GRANITE TOP
Granite is an excellent choice for kitchen counters because it is attractive, durable, heat resistant and low maintenance. However "low maintenance" should not be confused with "no maintenance". In order to maintain proper function and aesthetics, daily, weekly and annual maintenance should be followed.
DAILY: Wipe up spills and stains as they occur using nothing but a soft cloth, dampened with warm water (micro-fivers clothes work best).
WEEKLY: Granite should be cleaned thoroughly, once a week. Use a soft cloth and a mild (neutral PH) dishwashing liquid soap. Another product that I personally use is Murphy's Oil Soap.
ANNUALLY: In order to maintain/restore the granite's luster and help prevent staining, granite should be sealed every year. (More often if the area is heavily used and perhaps every two years in light duty applications.) There are two types of sealers: topical and penetrating. Topical sealers treat the surface only. They tend to darken the color a bit. D.R. Domenichini Construction prefers to use penetrating sealers. These sealers actually absorb into the granite and offer better protection while not effecting a color change. In any case, follow the manufacture's directions regarding application.
Proper maintenance doesn't take long and is actually very simple. If these steps are followed, your granite will look like new for decades to come!

THE VIDEO CORNER
Induction cooktops are gaining popularity in the US because of their safety, energy efficiency and ease of cleaning.
The cooking vessels themselves are what heat the food, not the stove elements, leaving the cooktops only slightly warm to the touch, and thus much safer.
Temperature, speed and control are additional benefits with an induction cooktop. This type of stove heats up faster than an electric range allowing for faster cooking times - the energy savings can be substantial. Induction cooktops are about 10% more energy efficient compared to electricity powered stoves and ovens, and they use approximately half the energy of gas-sourced models.
