Car Guy Corner:
A note from the desk of David Domenichini
Happy Holidays! I hope that you are enjoying this joyous season of festivities and fun with your family and friends. Before getting to the more serious, business-related stories in this newsletter, I wanted to share a fun story with you about one of my hobbies and a special project that I have in the works.
You've probably heard about "Barn Finds". I would like to tell you about my "Field Find". Three years ago while out on a Sunday drive, I happened to see what appeared to be a car under a walnut tree in a field just a few miles from our home. Long story short, we unearthed "Walt", a 1973 Camaro Rally Sport, after an eight year slumber in the field and brought him home.
I needed a winter project so I decided to work on Walt. Rather than do a restoration, we are performing a "Resto-Mod". Resto-Mod is a recent term describing a combination of a restoration and a modification, taking cues from the originality of the car and bringing the performance and appearance up to date.
Take a look at the BEFORE and DURING photos below. Stay tuned for the AFTER photos in the next issue.
From my family to yours, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy 2012!

With the cold weather and rain coming, there aren't many car shows scheduled in the next few months.

Remodeling Cost vs Value Report 2011-12
Remodeling Magazine, November 4th Issue

Three years of dropping construction costs have not been enough to counter the steeper drop in house prices. But the rate of decline is slowing, and some markets are showing signs of a steady if slow recovery.

Some markets are performing better than others. The average cost-value ratio for cities in the Pacific region is 71.3%, due largely to higher resale values. That's good news for D.R. Domenichini Construction and our Silicon Valley clients!

Money Magazine November 17th Issue

Permits for housing construction climbed in October, signaling an uptick in optimism among homebuilders. The number of permits for future housing construction jumped to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 653,000 last month, up 10.9% from the revised rate of 589,000 in September, the Commerce Department said.
(Note from DRDCon: these permits are not necessarily for new construction as remodel projects are included in the government's figures. Either way, the stats are encouraging for the homeowner, the economy and for the construction market.)

Money Magazine, November 2nd Issue
These days roughly 16% of the population is living in a house with at least two adult generations, up from 12% in 1980, according to the Pew Research Center. That's the highest level in 50 years.
The economy has played no small role in this increased familial bonding. Given the aging boomer generation and expected growth in home ownership among Hispanics and Asians, for whom multigenerational living is more common, the trend will probably be with us for a while, says Kermit Baker, chief economist for the American Institute of Architects.
If you set up the right space, living under one roof with your parents won't break the bank -- or drive you crazy. Let D.R. Domenichini Construction help you to make any needed adjustments to your home so that you can more comfortably welcome and enjoy these newfound "additions" to your household. |

DRDCon FAQ's
Have you heard the expression that there is no such thing as a "dumb question"? Because our goal is to provide excellent customer service and (try) to be a jack-of-all trades for every client, sometimes we do get some off-the-wall questions, but never a dumb one.
With each newsletter in this new FAQ section, we will highlight some of the most frequently asked questions and maybe even share a few "silly" ones with you. We hope you will find this info helpful.
Can DRDCon help with design? Dave is always willing to "brainstorm" and usually can bring creative and user/builder -friendly solutions to design questions. For a more in depth design consultation though, Dave refers clients to Thom Scheid Interior Design.
What is the average cost of a bathroom remodel? The Contractor's costs range from $3K for "lipstick and mascara" to $15K for a custom, high-end bathroom. Add to that your costs of $1K to $15 for fixtures and finishes. That's just a ballpark figure with many variables, of course. |
