THIS WEEK AT THE FARMERS MARKET: July 28, 2011
Stay Cool at the Hydration Station

Is the summer heat wilting your leaves?

It's hot out there, and we at the East Boston Farmers Market want to make sure you're staying healthy and hydrated! As the temperature climbs, it becomes even more important to ensure that you are taking in enough liquids to avoid dehydration.

Our tasty solution? The Hydration Station! Every week -- as long as it's hot out -- we'll feature two coolers with naturally flavored water, free for all! The water is cooled with ice and is infused with fruits and herbs from our market vendors.

Last week, we offered fresh mint and raspberry-blueberry. Can you think of a flavor you'd like to try? Write to us and send us your suggestions. You just might see your flavor combinations at the next Hydration Station! Come find us next to the information table and fill up your bottle.

See you at the market!
RECIPE OF THE WEEK
Corn and Green Chili Salad

This cool and refreshing salad is adapted from Healthy Latino Cooking (Cocina Latina Saludable), a healthy recipe book created by Let's Get Movin.' Ask Eleanor or Ali how you can get your own copy! Try this salad with tortilla chips, throw it into a taco or burrito, or spoon some onto grilled fish or chicken!

    corn chile salad

Ingredients:

  • 3 ears of corn*, kernels removed from cobb
  • 3 medium tomatoes*, diced
  • 2 cubanelle peppers*
    • if you want to spice things up a bit, you can substitute one cubanelle pepper for one jalapeno pepper. If you want to add some serious heat, add some fresh habanero pepper. All of these peppers are available at the market!
  • 1/2 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1/3 cup sliced green onions* (about one or two stalks)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro*

 * Indicates you can find it at the East Boston Farmers Market this week!

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl. Mix well. That's it!
