Free Bike Repairs at the Market with the Boston Cyclists Union!
Ride your bike to the market and get a free tune up! The East Boston Farmers Market is partnering with the Boston Cyclists Union this week. Today, Thursday July 21, and on the third Thursday of the month through October 20, the Boston Cyclists Union will offer free bike tune-ups. Bike tune-ups include basic repairs needed to pull an old bike out of the basement, such as fixing a flat tire and getting brakes working again. Labor is free. If new parts are needed, there will be a minimal fee. Focus on fun, food, and fitness this week at the East Boston Farmers Market!

RECIPE OF THE WEEK | |
Green Beans With Tomatoes
From The Silver Palate Cookbook, by Julee Rosso and Sheila Lukins
This dish, in which the raw beans are sauteed, calls for the thinnest and tenderest green beans you can find. It is bright, fresh, and crisp, and can be eaten hot or at room temperature.
Ingredients:
- 1/3 cup olive oil
- 1 1/2 pounds green beans*
- 2 garlic cloves, peeled and chopped*
- 1 medium-size yellow onion, peeled and cut into thin rings*
- 4 small ripe tomatoes, about 1 pound, peeled, seeded, and roughly chopped*
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh Italian (flat leaf) parsley*
- 4 1/2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
* Indicates you can find it at the East Boston Farmers Market this week!
Directions:
1. Heat the olive oil in a heavy skillet over medium-low heat, add the beans, and cook, stirring and tossing constantly, until the beans are about half-cooked and become bright green.
2. Reduce the heat and add the garlic and onion. Cook, stirring, for one minute.
3. Add the tomatoes, parsley, vinegar, oregano, salt, and pepper, and continue to cook, tossing occasionally, until the sauce is slightly reduced, about another five minutes. Serve immediately, or cool and serve at room temperature.
