CWIC launches new website
CWIC is pleased to announce the launch of our brand new website, cwic.org. The site was made possible through a generous technical assistance grant from the Taproot Foundation and is the result of months of synchronized hard work on the part of our dedicated Taproot Team and CWIC staff.
The site is designed to better reflect CWIC's mission and showcases our current efforts. Please visit the site and give us your feedback!
CWIC releases reports on the current and projected job marketCWIC analyzed roughly 60,000 Chicago area job postings from August through November 2010 to develop an understanding of current job demand and employer needs. We found that roughly one third of the posted openings were in Healthcare and Information Technology. View the breakdown of job postings by occupational group and a list of the top occupations for each group .
CWIC also used data from Economic Modeling Systems, Inc. (EMSI) to show projected job openings for the 6 Chicago region from 2008-2018. The projections show that sales and office/administrative occupations will have the most openings in the long term. View the breakdown of projected job openings by major occupational category . |

| CWIC identifies training partners for Green Jobs
CWIC recently formalized partnerships with the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters Apprentice and Training Program, the Hispanic American Construction Industry Association, and Chicago Women in Trades through our State Energy Sector Partnership program. Over the next two years, CWIC will invest in training for 300 pre-apprentices, 250 installers of energy efficient building technologies, 25 energy efficient building crew chiefs and 25 building energy auditors.
This training will prepare workers for jobs in the construction and building retrofits for energy efficiency fields. The program is funded through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity by the United States Department of Labor through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Deans excited about Back to College December marked an important milestone for CWIC's Back to College initiative. Deans and Provosts representing nine local colleges met together for the first time to discuss CWIC's vision to build a program that will help adults who have college credits, re-enroll and finish college. Hadass Sheffer, the Executive Director of Graduate!Philadelphia, along with deans from University of Connecticut, Neumann University, and Peirce College spoke about their experience with similar initiatives in Philadelphia and Connecticut. The meeting generated a lot of excitement about how Chicago's higher education institutions can better serve adult students who often must juggle work and family commitments while pursuing their degree.
