| Dog of the Month |
Shadow recently had to have surgery on his front legs and they are now both in casts. As uncomfortable as that must be, he is a great sport about it and is always happy to see us!

How often does your cat visit the doctor?
Studies show that cats visit the vet an average of 1.1 times per year, compared to 2.3 times per year for dogs. Cats are percieved to be self-sufficient and because of that, many owners believe that they do not "need medical care". The American Association of Feline Practicioners and the American Animal Hospital Association believe that cats should visit the doctor twice per year for wellness exams. Changes in a cat's health status may occur fairly rapidly and frequent exams allow for early detection and treatment. Things that doctors look for are physical changes from the last visit, such as weight and vital signs; and observing the cat's breathing patterns, coordination, stance and strength; and behavioral changes.
What about a cats dental health? Did you realize that this is as important as a dog's dental health? Dental care at home includes brushing your pet's teeth, as well as providing treats that help prevent tartar and water additives. Dental care at the hospital includes having regular dental cleanings with your pet under anesthesia so that the teeth can be scaled and polished while also detecting and treating inflammation of the gums, broken teeth, and oral infections.
