BURMUDA OCEAN RACE - LAST CALL | |
Still Time to Enter
The biennial Bermuda Ocean Race to be held Friday 8 June has announced last call for entries, due Tuesday 1 May. Entries may be made online at www.bermudaoceanrace.com.
The BOR is a race that begins in Annapolis and ends 750 miles later in Bermuda. The BOR is open to any single or multi-hulled sailing yacht 28-feet overall in length or greater. The competition welcomes racing veterans, 1st timers and cruisers alike. There will be spinnaker, non-spinnaker, double-handed and one-design classes, along with a separate demonstration class for the Mini 6.5s.
The race is known for its mix of great racers, cruisers and diverse sailing conditions. Starting on the Chesapeake Bay sailors must navigate busy bay waters and cross the Gulf Stream. Largely invisible competition and reefs encircling Bermuda also make it a race for the adventurous. |

OPTIS WANTED | |
Donation Opportunity
The National Sailing Center & Hall of Fame is mentoring a group of Anne Arundel County Public School STEM students and Center for Applied Technology students to construct an Optimist Land Cruiser fashioned after a similar El Toro Land Cruiser built in Alameda, CA. The purpose is to take "first Opti" experiences TO elementary school students along with lessons on the math and science of sailing.
The NSHoF is looking for the donation of two Optimist dinghies which will be put onto custom cradles to create land cruisers to take to elementary schools to promote sailing in conjunction with a lesson on the science of sailing. The rigs need to be functional, but the hulls can be older and in need of minor repairs. Rudders are optional as they will be cut shorter, but tillers are still necessary.
Boats can be donated either to the NSHOF or EYC Foundation, both of which are 501(c)3 and can issue letters of donation.
Contact Susan Nahmias, Education Director at the National Sailing Center & Hall of Fame by calling 410-295-3022 or emailing susan.nahmias@nshof.org for more information. |
