OPTIS WANTED
Donation Opportunity

The National Sailing Hall of Fame is looking for the donation of two Optimist dinghies which will be put onto custom cradles to create land cruisers to take to elementary schools to promote sailing in conjunction with a lesson on the science of sailing. The rigs need to be functional, but the hulls can be older and in need of minor repairs.

The NSHOF is overseeing a group of 11th graders in their effort to design an "Optimist" version of the West Coast "El Toro" land cruiser built by Kame Richards, owner of Pineapple Sails in Alemeda, CA.  In conjunction with the EYC Foundation's MAST (MArine Skills Training) initiative at the Center for Applied Technology (CAT) South, the Marine Services students are being joined with STEM students to complete the project.  Port Annapolis Marina will be mentoring the CAT South students in their construction of the land cruiser, designed by the STEM students, after consultation with Kame Richards.

Boats can be donated either to the NSHOF or EYC Foundation, both of which are 501(c)3 and can issue letters of donation.

Contact Susan Nahmias, Education Director at the National Sailing Center & Hall of Fame by calling 410-295-3022 or emailing susan.nahmias@nshof.org for more information.
