PRE-SEASON SAIL RACE SEMINAR
North East River Yacht Club

"Shifting Gears, Getting Around The Race Course Faster" presented by Kristen Berry on Saturday 17 March from 9:00am - 3:30pm at NERYC. The program will provide valuable information for all level of sailors by focusing on techniques to improve performance throughout the race course; faster starts, accelerating through tacks, improved mark roundings, better crew maneuvers, sail trim tips and more. The seminar is open to all area sailors and a complete course outline can be found online, along with registration at www.neryc.com.

 

The cost, which includes lunch, is:

  $35 for Skippers

  $25 for Crew members

  $15 for Juniors

 

Kristen Berry is a US Sailing certified Level One, Basic Keelboat, Cruising and Coastal Navigation instructor and coach for a number of groups including JWorld Annapolis, Baltimore's Downtown Sailing Center, and the United States Naval Academy. When he's not coaching, Kristen is out racing in local, national and international races, or working with a variety of professional and grassroots groups focused on environmental protection and conservation.

OFFSHORE VESSEL PREPARATION SEMINAR
Bermuda Ocean Race

Mark your calendars for the BOR's 5th seminar: Offshore Vessel Preparation, Saturday 24 March from noon to 4:00pm at the Eastport Volunteer Fire Department, 914 Bay Ridge Avenue, Annapolis, MD.  Dave Abt, president of Marine Rescue & Tactical Survival, LLC, will discuss how best to prepare your boat and crew.  Emergencies at Sea and BOR required safety items will also be reviewed. After, there will be a reception for skippers and crew who are officially registered in the BOR.

NUTS AND BOLTS OF RACE COMMITTEE CLINIC
Hampton Yacht Club & CCV

You won't want to miss this seminar, with an emphasis on starting and finishing races, on Saturday 24 March from 0900 to 1200 at the Hampton Yacht Club.  This is a great clinic for Race Committee teams, volunteers, and anyone else interested in getting the basics down. This is a practical clinic - good for newbies as well as a refresher for race committee regulars.  There is no charge and coffee, pastries, and other refreshments will be provided.  The clinic will be led by area race management officials John McCarthy, Buk Lawrence, and Lin McCarthy.

KIDS' CORNER
Junior Racing

High Point medals will be available at the Southern Bay High Point Ceremony on Sunday 11 March. The presentation will be a part of the Hampton Yacht Club Race Committee Appreciation Social beginning at 4:00pm.

 

Congratulations to the 2011 Race Committee of the Year - Junior Division for the Junior Olympics Festival and Bay Open Regatta hosted by the Hampton Yacht Club. The honored race committee team ran the on-the water aspects of the 2011 regatta held in July in Hampton, Virginia. More than twenty (20+) race committee members supported the event as part of the team led by:

Event Principal Race Officer (and Optis) - John McCarthy;  

Laser Radials and 420s Course Race Officer - Brian Deibler;  

Green Fleet Race Officer - Mark Newman;

Safety Boats Chairman - Doug Amthor.
