LIGHTS PARADE | |
Eastport Yacht Club
The annual Annapolis tradition, is just around the corner!
The parade lights up the Annapolis waterfront with up to 40 boats of all shapes and sizes, power and sail, brightly decorated for the Christmas season. This festive maritime event is great fun for the entire family. Skippers participate for the fun of it, and circle the waterfront in two fleets: one circling in front of Eastport, the City Dock and the Naval Academy seawall, the other circling the length of Spa Creek, inside the bridge.
This year the Lights Parade will be held on Saturday, December 10, between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 PM. The event will occur rain or shine, with only high winds forcing a cancellation.
More than 50 volunteers work all year long to produce this event, a gift to the city of Annapolis from the Eastport Yacht Club. Twenty to thirty thousand people line the waterfront each year to watch this glittering holiday parade.
For more information about the Lights Parade, visit the Eastport Yacht Club website at: www.eastportyc.org |
NOMINATION REQUEST | |
Race Committee of the Year
This award goes to the Race Committees judged to have conducted the most outstanding races of the year. Each year, Racers, Classes, Fleets, or Divisions may nominate an event or race committee for consideration. An important factor is the "outstanding" criteria that the CBYRA Executive Committee will judge as a regatta that raises the bar in excellent race management and illustrates the overall high caliber of racing on the Chesapeake Bay.
The award dates back to 1966, when former CBYRA President Stewart Walker donated an "Annual Race Committee Award" trophy. In 1984, the award was divided into categories for One Design and Handicap & Cruising One Design. In 1988, the growing number of high-level events on the Chesapeake was recognized with an addition of a Championship category. A separate Junior Division category was added in 2002.
Email the office with your nomination(s) for 2011 Race Committee of the Year in one of all of the four categories; One Design, Handicap or Cruising One Design, Championship and Junior. Please include the Club name, event and class(es) along with your glowing recommendation. |
