ARTHUR ALLEN LIBBY III | |
In Loving Memory
Art Libby, age 73, of Annapolis, died 8 November after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joan Johnson, his children, Arthur, Paige, and Timothy; his grandchildren, A.J, Jack, Alden, Amalie, Trippe and Oliver; and his sister, Martha Libby Calwell.
Art is widely known for his lifelong love of sailing, a passion he shared with his wife and passed on to his children and grandchildren. He joined the Annapolis Yacht Club in 1972 and served on almost every AYC committee before becoming Commodore in 2000. His sailing accomplishments were many, including winning High Point in the Pearson 30 class in 1998. He volunteered his time giving back to the sport he loved. He served as Fleet Captain of the Cal 25 Fleet, President of CBYRA, and various race committees. His Corinthian spirit and love of the sport was honored by a special CBYRA trophy, the "Art Libby Corinthian Spirit Award" given to a junior sailor who shows sportsmanship qualities on and off the race course. Art was also a member of the Sailing Club of the Chesapeake.
A memorial mass celebrating his life will be held on Wednesday 16 November 1030 at St. John Neumann Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 15, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at The Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis. Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the research efforts of Dr. A. Quinones-Hinojosa Johns Hopkins University, Dept. of Neurosurgery 100 N. Charles St., Baltimore, MD 21201, or AYC Junior Fleet, 2 Compromise Street, Annapolis, MD 21401. Online condolences may be made to the www.johnmtaylorfuneralhome.com |
