RACING RULES OF SAILING APP

iPhone and Android Applications Now Available

The official iPhone and Android application for The Racing Rules of Sailing for 2009-2012, including the US SAILING Prescriptions is now available. The Racing Rules of Sailing app is for you if you are an avid sailor looking for instant access to the official rules and signals. With this application you will be prepared to answer any rules or signal questions that arise any time.

SCC/GIYS JOIN FORCES

NEW! Annual Regatta Spring Race

The Sailing Club of the Chesapeake and Gibson Island Yacht Squadron are jointly hosting this new around the bouys distance race on Saturday 21 May. The event is open to all classes, including PHRF N and Club Class for cruising boats that have a club assigned hadicap rating. Any class desiring a start may request one with a minimum of 3 boats by contact the SCC RC Chair, John Patmore.

The race will start in the vicinity of Hacketts Point and finish north of the Bay Bridge at the entrance to the Magothy River. Course length will be between 12 and 30 NM depending on wind conditions and fleet starting. Gibson Island then welcomes sailors to an awards party following racing.

Entry Fee: $50 for CBYRA members registering online and $60 for all others is due by Wednesday 18 May. Online entry and race documents are available at www.gibsonisland.com/yachtsquadron/race-regattas/registration-info/

LADIES SAILING CLINIC

Hampton University Sailing Center

Cheryl Ryan is organizing a women's sailing clinic 21-22 May at Hampton University in an attempt to attract more women to the local dinghy circuit. The idea for the clinic sprung out of a desire to help those with little to no experience discover what all the fun is about.

If you can swim, you can sail so come out and join us!

Who: Ladies 16 and up

What: Learn to Sail - For true beginners

Learn to Race - For ladies with some sailing experience

When: 21-22 May, 0900-1700

Where: Hampton Univeristy Sailing Center

How much: $100 if registered by 7 May, $120 after that.

All fees are due on-site the first day of the clinic.

The registration fee includes 2 full days of instruction, boat rental, and a cookout Saturday evening. HU's fleet of Flying Juniors, a double-handed racing dinghy, will be used. A limited number of lasers will be available for the Learn to Race group. Additional details will be released closer to the date of the clinic. Don't miss some of the best racing of the season while participating in the largest on-water fundraising event in the world. The weekend will feature a rousing Launch Party, the 2nd Annual Honorary Skipper Fun Race, the Leukemia Cup Regatta and an awesome Crew Party to celebrate our accomplishments in fundraising for cures.
