CLEAN BOATING ACT | |
Weekly Webinars
The U.S. Environment Protection Agency (EPA) is developing future clean boating requirements for all recreational boats in the next few months, and they need to hear from you. Sign up and pipe up for one of the weekly "webinars" to solicit boater input on Friday, 22 April at 1000 or Monday, 25 April at 1200.

A specific list of proposed requirements is not yet available. We do know that sewage will not be discussed or covered as it is part of a different law. EPA is looking at several borad categories of vessel dicharges: (1) Antifouling paints and zincs, (2) Graywater (from showers and sinks), (3) Bilge water (with concern about oil and grease), (4) Cleaning products and Maintenance practices, (5) Disposal of garbage and Fishing waste, and (6) Transport of invasive species. |
ROCK HALL YACHT CLUB | |
Opening Day Regatta
The RHYC Opening Day Regatta is Saturday 7 May and is open to Lasers, Lasr Radials and Junior Radials, as well as Classic Moths and Windmills. Online registration is open and awaiting adult and junior registrants: http://rockhallyachtclub.org/regatta.htm
Sailors save $7 when regitering before 4 May 2011. This early registration helps RHYC plan more effectivley for regatta staff and other resources. |
DOWN THE BAY RACE | |
Virginia Cruising Cup
This long time favorite starts in Annapolis on Friday, 27 May and dashes non-stop to Hampton, with boats expected to finish sometime Saturday, 28 May. The Storm Trysail Club of the Chesapeake organizes the start and Hampton Yacht Club handles the finish. For detailed information and to enter, go to www.hamptonyc.com and click on the event logo.

SOUTHERN BAY RACE WEEK | |
Black Seal Cup
Join the organizing authorities, HYC, OPCYC and CCV on Thursday 2 June for the welcome, check-in and skippers meeting for the most significant racing event on the southern Chesapeake Bay. Racing will run Friday 3 June through Sunday 5 June with post-race parties and awards presentations each evening at HYC.
This year there will be racing for PHRF spinnaker and non-spin fleets, One-Design fleets, and a newly revised Cruising fleet, which will only race a single race on both Saturday and Sunday.

PHRF & One-Design (3 multiple-race days) $150/$155
Cruising Fleet (2 single race days) $99
SBRW 2010 Returnees $5 Discount
Additional Late Fee of $50 if registering after 25 May

JUNIOR SAFETY AT SEA | |
Storm Trysail Club
Junior sailors (12-20) are invited to an introduction to big boats on Sunday, June 5 from 0800 to 1730 at the Annapolis Yacht Club's Sailing Center - Butler Building. The $25 registration fee includes logo tee shirts, light breakfast, box lunch, pizza party, prizes, raffle, and certification.
There will be three separate teaching groups for novice dinghy, intermediate and advanced sailors aboard 35-42 foot boats. The goals being to sail/race now with Storm Trysail on Bay Races, offshore deliveries to Block Island plus Racing Certificates recognized by U.S. Sailing.
The morning will start with a short movie on Man Overboard Prevention and recovery plus lecture on use of large winches and gear. Then instruction aboard boats at the pier will include life raft inflation demonstration, Sling pickup of MOB, Reefing practice, and Teaching correct winch and line handling. On the water training will follow and then a short race with gift certificates to crews on winning boat.
