Eli Wilner & Company, the frame sommelier, who has created over 10,000 masterpieces for the most prestigious art institutions in the world, is honored to have framed 9 paintings by renowned French Impressionist Master Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919) for Hammer Galleries' inaugural exhibition in their new location. RENOIR, which will run from November 2, 2010-January 5, 2011, will include 25 oils and pastels, ranging in date from the mid 1880's-1912.
Known for his ability to capture scenes of everyday life and render them in compositions filled with light and color, this exhibit will focus on key works from the last thirty years of the artist's life, including large oils and pastels. Hammer Galleries held its first Renoir exhibit in 1959 and its second in 1983, so this is a very fitting exhibit to launch the gallery's new space.

Eli Wilner & Company has loaned six replica frames and three period frames for the exhibition.
Jeune Femme au Chapeau Noir has a 19th century French period frame, with applied ornament and gilded. Other works framed by Eli Wilner include Claude Renoir dessinant (Coco ecrivant), which was framed with a replica of a French-style period frame, carved and gilded, and Nu au Fauteuil, which now includes a replica of a late 19th century period frame, applied ornament and gilded.
"An extraordinary painting by an extraordinary artist such as Renoir requires an extraordinary frame," said Howard Shaw, President and Director of Hammer Galleries. "Each of Eli's frames are not only dramatic and historically accurate, but they completely transform the entire look of the painting. We are absolutely thrilled with the end results."
