Community News -- KCLS Fun and an OLE Event

PrincipalPrincipal's Message

Ms. PointerHello Einstein Families,

I hope you enjoyed your long weekend. My family enjoyed the opportunity to reflect on the life of Martin Luther King Jr. and the incredible contributions he made that significantly impact society on a daily basis.

One of my favorite Martin Luther King Jr. quotes is, "Everybody can be great... because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love." There are many of you that serve our school and our community on a regular basis and I thank you for that! You have no idea how much we appreciate the little things our community does to support us!

One group of individuals that work very hard for our school is our classified staff members. This week we will celebrate and honor them for all they do. Whether they are standing in the pouring rain to make sure your students get to class safely, cleaning our building with extreme attention to detail, managing a hectic office, or supporting teachers and students in classrooms, they are doing it with sincere dedication and genuine joy. We are very fortunate to have a classified team that truly loves kids and loves the work they do! If you happen to see one of them this week, please thank them for all they do.

Finally the weather is providing us a good reminder that when weather conditions require a change in the normal school day schedule, the district will communicate changes in the following ways:

  • Messages will be recorded on the district's main phone line, (425) 936-1200.
  • Information will be available at http://schoolreport.org
  • The district's site, http://lwsd.org, may contain updates including cancelled events.

Have a fantastic week!

Melissa Pointer

Principal

CurriculumSpecialist Update: English Language Learners (ELL)

Einstein's English Language Learner (ELL) students are working hard every day to improve their English skills. Mrs. Green and Ms. Roberts are very proud of the 24 fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students who come to school every morning at 8:00am for their language instruction. Many of them have not missed a single day since we started in September! We have learned about Egypt and Columbia and how a person can make a difference in the lives of other people or animals. In grades 1-3 topics have included life cycles, families, seasons, communities, inventors and their inventions.

All ELL students at Einstein are getting ready for the annual state language test, or WELPA (Washington English Language Proficiency Assessment) formerly called the WLPT II. ELL students in grades K through 6 will test their skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing English beginning February 9 through March 6.

FridaySchoolSpiritRemember to Wear Your Otter Colors on Fridays

Every Friday brings another opportunity to show off your school spirit! Wear your Otter colors -- blue and gray. Or if you have Otter wear shirts, sweatshirts, or jackets, wear those. Join us in Otter Pride and celebrating Einstein Elementary!

And for anyone interested in purchasing Einstein apparel, there will be another opportunity to do so this school year. Look for details in future Ottermails or on the PTSA site.

CourtDecisionState Supreme Court: WA Underfunding Education

"The Washington Supreme Court ruled [January 5] that the state isn't meeting its constitutional obligation to amply pay for basic public education, but the justices gave an endorsement to the reform work the Legislature has already started.

The 85-page opinion said, however, that the judiciary would keep an eye on lawmakers to make sure they fully implement education reforms by 2018."
