PrincipalPrincipal's Message

Ms. Pointer

Hello Einstein Families,

I hope you all had a restful holiday. I definitely enjoyed some quality time with my family.

As the weather continues to get colder and colder, it is more and more likely that we could have a delay in the start of school. If that happens, the district will communicate closures or delayed starts in a few ways. Primary methods of communication are the school and district sites. A red alert "flag" will appear on the home page of these sites by 5:30 a.m. to notify everyone whether school is on a late start schedule or closed. The district may also use the automated phone system to call the primary guardian to report a change. Additionally, the district communicates with most media outlets regarding any changes. It will be very difficult for you to get information from the school directly as the phone lines are very busy on days there are changes. You are encouraged to call the school office directly as a last resort.

On another note, the week prior to break, I had two opportunities to be in the parking lot prior to the start of school. I wanted to highlight something for you that I have mentioned in the past. Traffic moved very quickly in and out of the parking lot from 8:35-8:45. At about 8:47, volume picks up quickly and moved incredibly slowly until after 9:00. For this reason, we urge you to arrive prior to 8:45. When students arrive late, it causes a disruption to their morning routines. In some grade levels, critical reading instruction begins first thing in the morning so any missed instructional time is a detriment.

Thank you for helping kids arrive on time, ready for the day!

Melissa Pointer

CurriculumSpecialist Update: Safety Net

There are some exciting things happening in safety net! There are eight safety net teachers: Ellen Barber, Stephanie Harshman, Kathy Murray, Sharon Schmale, Kimberlee Shakeri, Michelle Vallene, Victoria Walton, and Nikki Wetzel.

We are running a before-school reading program for our third graders and an after-school math program for our fourth through sixth graders. We are going to have 5 library events this year. They are Thursday nights from 6:00 to 7:00pm at the Redmond Library. Families of safety net, English Language Learners (ELL), and special education students are encouraged to come and join us for pizza, a fun activity, and a free book to take home! The dates are January 26, March 1, March 22, April 19, and May 17.

PhoneNumberEinstein School Phone Number

Einstein families, please make sure your records contain the proper school phone number -- 425-936-2540.

If you are using the old 558 prefix number, that number no longer works. You will get a busy signal with no explanation. Please update your phones.

DonationsThe Health Room Needs Your Help

We are almost out of pants for the health room for when kids come in, needing a change of clothes. If you have any slightly used or new elementary school-age sized pants, preferably sweats, we would appreciate the donation.

The Holidays are coming

Einstein is pleased once again to be working with Hopelink to help families in our community who may need assistance during the Holiday Season. All unwrapped donations continue to be collected at Einstein through December 15. Look for the red collection bucket in front of the office.

To be eligible for Christmas help, families must sign up with Hopelink by December 7, 2011. Hopelink has a gift room where families can pick out items on Dec. 20 & 21; for example toys, clothes, and other gifts appropriate for their needs.

Hopelink is open from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Call Shirley at Hopelink, 425-882-0241, to set up an appointment. You will be expected to bring verification of your address, picture ID, and birth certificates/other identification of family members to your appointment.

Do You Enjoy Ice Skating?

Then you should know about the 2011-2012 Bellevue Magic Season Ice Arena brought to you by Bank of America. The ice rink is built every year in Bellevue as a temporary structure and features a partial open-air experience (but still has covering for rainy days).

Ice skating opened to the public on Friday, November 25th and closes on Sunday, January 8th and is a part of the Bellevue Magic Season. Admission is $10/person, which includes skate rental.

And there is a special offer to raise money for Einstein... From November 25 through December 16, 2011 and January 3-8, 2012 (excluding Mondays), if you notify the rink staff when you purchase your tickets that you go to Einstein, $3 of every entry fee will be paid back to the PTSA at the end of the season.
