Hello Families,
As you know, our parking lot can be very busy during before school drop-off and after school pick-up. For a variety of reasons the amount of families driving this year has increased, which means we need to be even more thoughtful about the times that we drop-off and pick-up our students and about our driving in the parking lot.
In the morning, please arrive between 8:40 and 8:50am. From 8:50-9:00am buses are arriving and departing which drastically increases congestion. For this reason, we urge you to arrive prior to 8:50am. When driving in our parking lot, please use extreme caution. Both speeding and the use of cell phones while driving are prohibited. Thank you so much for keeping our kids safe!
On another note, I wanted to say thank you to everyone that helped with vision and hearing screening last week. We tested over 450 students in an incredibly efficient manner which we couldn't have done without the help of our incredible volunteers.
Thank you for all of your support! Have a great week!
Melissa Pointer
Principal

Curriculum Update: 3rd Grade
The 3rd grade classes are off to a great start. Our students were proud to share their goals during last week's conferences, and thank you for attending. We're lucky to have committed and dedicated parents; working together makes a difference in your child's education.
Our Math EnVision groups have been up and running for over three weeks now. Place value, number sense with addition and subtraction, and problem solving will be our focus this month. Thanks to the PTSA, we will be supplementing our curriculum with a new math site called IXL. We're excited to get this program started in the next week. Your child will be taking timed addition, subtraction, multiplication and division tests on the computer this year. It's never too early to start practicing.
Our classes have been exploring Life Science, and our biggest hit so far has been our classroom crayfish. Students became very attached to these little critters; they even had names. They learned how to care for and feed the crayfish. They also observed the structures and behaviors of our new little friends. As with all activities that involve living organisms, the most important message embedded in the experience was respect for life. We have 32 new Netbooks that will be shared by our three classes. Type to Learn, Raz-kids, Math IXL, and Internet research projects are programs we are currently using to enrich our curriculum. We'll keep you posted as we add more sites throughout the year. Our Fall Festival parties are coming up Monday, October 31st. Einstein's Math Night will be on November 17th.

2011-12 Reflections: Entry Deadline is October 28
The Einstein PTSA is proud to once again be participating in the National PTA Program Reflections. The program offers students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition. This year's theme is "Diversity Means..."
Encouraging your child to submit an entry this year is one way you can promote the arts in your home and at our school. Students K-6 can submit works of art in six areas: dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and the visual arts (which includes art forms such as drawing, painting, print making, and collage).
The deadline for entry is 4:00pm on October 28. Rules and application documents can be found here. For more information, please contact Laura D'Urso at reflections@einsteinptsa.org.
