Principal's Message

Hello Einstein Families,

This has been an incredible year for me. I really love being your principal and I appreciate all you have done to make this first year a really special one for me. I look forward to all of the exciting work we have ahead of us next year. We will continue to build upon all of the things that make Einstein an amazing school for your children.

As you know, next year will be the last year we have 6th grade students at the elementary level. At the end of the year, both 5th and 6th grade students will be promoted to Redmond Middle School! We have already begun planning for next year to ensure that both 5th and 6th grade students have an amazing final year in elementary school. On our school Web site, you will find some preliminary plans for various topics related to reconfiguration.  More specific details related to each topic will be shared with families in August.

A big thanks to Cheryl Plate and the 6th grade students for an incredible field day on Thursday! There were so many creative stations for kids to enjoy. It was a thrill to see all Kindergarten through 5th grade students so actively engaged in each physically challenging station. It was a great success!

I hope this last three days of school goes well for you and your family. Have a wonderful summer full of fun, relaxation, and special times; create those great memories!

Take care,
Melissa Pointer, Principal

Curriculum Update: Sixth Grade

Sixth grade is almost done and students are anxious to start their new adventure in junior high! Just a few of the highlights this spring included hands-on investigations in science and social studies, science fair, geometry and algebra, lots of math facts, netbooks, art throughout the curriculum, and an abundant amount of reading and writing! Not surprising, the ability to persuade others was evident while presenting diverse viewpoints through various writing assignments on social and cultural issues. Social studies engaged students in a variety of activities to learn about ancient cultures through multiple intelligences. The simulation game, DIG, gave students an opportunity to develop their own society and apply the principles they learned about cultural universals such as communication, economics, family structure, etc.

What's more...the MSP is done! The Pacific Science Center overnight was a huge success and tons of fun for the students too! The promotion ceremony is scheduled for Monday, at 2:15pm in the gym and students are anxiously awaiting the end of the year activities including field day and the annual kickball game against the teachers. In just a few short days, elementary school will be a distant memory for them. We wish all the students the very best for their upcoming activities and new path ahead.

Einstein 5th Graders Learn about Nutrition

Last week our 5th graders experienced a valuable hands-on nutrition lesson. They participated in The Pure Food Kids Workshop, sponsored by Seattle-based nonprofit organization Beecher's Flagship Foundation (BFF). The students discovered how to read nutrition labels, explored healthy ingredients, and made a batch of vegetarian chili. Read the full story covered in the Redmond Reporter.

Evergreen Junior High Sports

For the 6th graders going to Evergreen Junior High (EJH) next year, and who may be interested in joining sports, there are 4 sports seasons during the year (more information available here). Required forms can be found at http://www.lwsd.org/school/EJH under "Athletic-Forms/Policies" or can be picked up in the EJH office beginning in mid-August.

If your child plans on visiting the doctor in the summer, you may request a completed physical examination clearance form to be attached to the 2011-12 athletic paperwork.

If you have questions, call EJH at 425-936-2320.
