Principal's Message

Hello Einstein Families,

This afternoon we had the pleasure of honoring many of the volunteers that faithfully serve our school at our annual Volunteer Tea. We know there were many other loyal volunteers that were unable to join us today so I'd like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to everyone that volunteers in any way at Einstein. I am amazed at the level of commitment of our parent community. Parents contribute so much time and energy in a variety of ways on a daily basis. We have amazing Art Docents, Lunch Buddies, classroom assistants, health room volunteers, family events volunteers and so much more! We are so fortunate to have the support of our community.

A few volunteers and staff members that have really gone above and beyond this year were recognized during the celebration. The Golden Acorn Award, which is the highest honor given each year and is a Washington State PTA Award, was awarded to Laura D'Urso and Linda Johnson for their incredible service to the school and community. The Einstein Award was awarded to Kitty Tam and Janie Hemmingway for their incredible organizational skills in serving the needs of the Einstein students. The Otter Award was awarded to Monica Trujillo and Mary Goodwin for their spirit and dedication. We also highlighted the efforts of Deva Demeter, Kari Haegle, Melanie Williams, Leslie Andrews, Arelli Lopez, Josh McQueen, Colleen Beck-Boa, Donna Muench, and Penny Miller.

We could not do what we do without you! Thank you all so very much!

Have a great weekend!

Melissa Pointer,

Principal

** SCHOOL NEWS **

News from our Second Grade Classes

Second graders have been busy finishing up our last Reading Unit, practicing how to write a paragraph with a good topic sentence, and mastering our math facts.

We experienced a wonderful hands-on field trip to the Bellevue Botanical Gardens where we had an interactive nature walk through the garden, participated in a soil experiment, and got our hands a little dirty planting our own Hen and Chick plants which we brought home to put in our home gardens.

"Boom, Boom, Boom", came out of the library doors when Mr. J (aka Mr. Johnson) came to sing with all of us in a big group session. Boy, did we sound good! Last but not least, we participated in the Northwest Art of Discovery program and culminated our appreciation of Northwest artists by creating our own clay sculpture of an animal. We had a second grade zoo of amazing clay animals.

We plan to culminate in June a great second grade year with a delicious breakfast Luau complete with limbo and hula hoops. Aloha!

News from our Kindergarten Classes

It has been a busy adventure in Kindergarten!  All five classes recently took a field trip to the Snoqualmie Train Museum and got to ride on one of the trains that pass by the falls.  This was a great opportunity for our Kindergarteners to learn about how trains and railroads have influenced our lives here in the Northwest.

We have also continued our investigations with plants and how they grow.  We have watched pine trees, marigolds and wheat grass grow before our eyes!  Students have learned about the parts of a flower as well as what plants need to grow.  We have also been learning about wood and paper and have continued to discover that different kinds of these materials are better suitable for different situations.

Thanks to an Otter Grant from our PTSA, all of the kindergarten classes have received a set of leveled sight word readers that the students have been enjoying during small reading groups and independent reading time.

Kindergarten is looking forward to their end of the year picnic at Farrel McWhirter Park on June 17th as well as a Kindergarten Carnival on June 21st that our big buddies from Mrs. Holzer and Ms. Brennan's class will be preparing for us!

RodeoBook Rodeo is coming... Are you ready?

For anyone who's not participated in Book Rodeo before, this is an annual program to organize a book swap in time to prep the kids for summer reading.

Here's how it works--Einstein will collect books the week of June 6. For every 4 books donated, the student will receive a Book Buck. Students who have Book Bucks will be able to come to the library on the afternoon of Friday, June 10, to purchase books. Then, June 13 - 17, the Book Rodeo will run for all other students to purchase books for 25¢ each. Start looking through your book collection for books to pass on. More information will be coming.

HungerEnd Hunger Coin Drive ends June 3rd

End Hunger Summer Coin Drive started Monday, so bring in those little brown bags with change. Every Cent Counts! Thank you for helping our local food bank it really makes a difference in the summer months.
