Principal's Message

Hello Einstein Families,

International Night last night was INCREDIBLE!!! I can't tell you how proud I was to be your principal! I learned so much from our students and the different cultures they represent!

The 16 table hosts put so much time and energy into making their tables educational, fun, and beautiful. It was thrilling to see so many children and adults dressed in clothing that represented their heritage. The performances were also just fantastic! Our own Einstein Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Seong, sang four beautiful songs, four of our own 6th grade girls performed an exciting African dance, a Russian group performed three fun dance routines, a hip hop group performed a high energy routine and they taught us some moves! It was such an amazing family event.

As I said last night, I am just so happy for our students that they get to be a part of such an incredible school that is truly representative of our global community. The benefits of growing up with students from so many different cultures is immeasurable. I am just sorry that not all students in the country get to have such an incredible educational experience.

There are many people who worked incredibly hard to make last night such a success. I want to thank the coordinator of the event, parent Tara Van Niman, Mrs. Crane, Mrs. Hemingway, Ms. King, Ms. Bak, Mrs. Holzer, Deva Demeter, Dawn, Mak, and all the table hosts. We really appreciate your effort.

The Redmond Patch was there covering the event so be sure to check their Web site to see the story!

Have a great weekend!

Melissa Pointer, Principal

News from Our Music Classes

All grades finished the Orff Ensemble unit and started the African drumming unit after spring break, except grade 4. African drums, rattles, and bells were introduced. We are working on several strokes and putting them together in an ensemble now. The fourth grade just began their recorder unit to enhance music reading skills. Correct posture, tonguing, fingering, and reading notes have been practiced. Our 6th grade attended the Seattle Symphony concert on March 10th. We listened to "Carnival of the Animals" by Saint-Saens, "Mount St. Helens" by Alan Hovhaness, and Violin concerto in E minor by Felix Mendelssohn. The choir is working hard for our Spring Concert on Thursday, May 5th @ 7:00 p.m.

Thank you to OLE and Splinter for your support of International Night

A very special thank you to One League for Everyone from LWYSA and the Splinter dance crew for making our International Night event even more amazing! OLE was on hand to educate and sign up players and Splinter provided an exciting hip hop performance. Here's more information on the organizations.

One League for Everyone (OLE) helps families and players in need by minimizing the cost of uniforms, sweatshirts, tournament fees, snacks and trophies, all important parts of the youth soccer experience in our community! To learn more about OLE, visit the LWYSA site at www.lwysa.org and click on OLE.

Splinter's mission is to extend thought-provoking dance performances to a broad range of audiences; making dance accessible to the public using site-specific work as well as maintaining artistically current theatrical works for paying audiences. Learn more about their work and events at their blog at http://splinterdance.wordpress.com/.
