Principal's Message

Hello families,

This week the Lake Washington Schools Foundation held their annual Legacy for Learning luncheon. The purpose of the luncheon was to fundraise for the Foundation. The funds the Foundation raised will be used to support many programs that we benefit from at Einstein. Those include the Foundation Classroom & School Enrichment Grants which support innovative educational projects initiated by building staff and volunteers. They also provide an Access Fund to help lower income students defray some of the academic related costs of attending school. They provide scholarships for the District's Core Academic Summer School and they also fund LINKS, the Volunteer and Mentoring Program of the Lake Washington School District.

We were thrilled to have Einstein teacher, Emily Moulton, highlighted in a video that was shown during the luncheon. Emily coordinates our Homework Club that meets on Wednesday nights at the transitional housing complex. Her program was funded through a Foundation grant. I was also able to share in a brief speech, the way the Foundation funds support and impact our students. I enjoyed sharing the experience with several Einstein parents that volunteered to come: Deva Demeter, Laura D'Urso, Deanna Lanier, and Melanie Williams.

I am excited to report that the event raised $144,500! This is very exciting for our district and our school!

You can find more information in the newsletter here, and videos at the LWSF link. Donations to LWSF help fund the programs you see at the videos.

Enjoy your weekend,
Melissa Pointer, Principal

Come celebrate the incredible diversity of Einstein!

There will be singing, dancing and country/region tables with food, native dress and cultural artifacts. The following countries/cultures are represented: Russia, Korea, Vietnam, India, Somalia, China, Kazakhstan, United Kingdom, Zimbabwe, France, African American, United States, Brazil, Iraq, Canada, Mexico, Poland and Native American.

Please arrive on time, promptly at 6:30pm, as we have a full evening planned. We encourage you to wear native dress. Time permitting, there will be a native dress parade at the end of the evening.

News from Third Grade

African American research reports are fabulous and hanging in the window hallway! Please come by and see all of their hard work.  Our next writing project will be personal narratives. These narratives will be put into a classroom book at the end of the year. The month of April has been spent on reviewing math and reading strategies for MSP in addition to our regular curriculum. In reading, we will be embarking on our Literary Titanic Journey. This unit will definitely be a third grade favorite project!

We would like all third grade students to work with First In Math three times a week. Each class will be checking their sticker counts every day! First In Math is a great tool to reinforce math facts and skills. We are looking forward to our June field trip to the Flight Museum and our end-of-the-year Rocket Launch!

Running Club = Great Success. Can't wait for May 20!

The second Running Club took Einstein by storm on April 15 and continues to be a huge success. We want to thank the Student Council, Staff, and all the volunteers who make it such a wonderful opportunity for the students!

The next Running Club is Friday, May 20. We encourage parents to participate in Running Club during the lunch hour--enjoy all the fun while modeling healthy living. Don't forget to wear your running shoes!
