Principal's Message

Hello Einstein Families,

Thank you for making Science Expo a fun family event!

I hope you all enjoyed the Science Expo and to see Nature Vision in action! I was very impressed by the projects I saw at every grade level! I would like to thank our amazing teachers Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Sandbo, Mrs. Goodwin and parent volunteer Deva Demeter for all of their help in planning and organizing this fun family event! Also thanks to the Redmond High school students for their science demonstrations.

We did learn that science is fun and messy!

Thanks to Dawn and Mac for cleaning up after us.

I hope you all have a safe and relaxing Spring Break.

Have a great weekend!

Melissa Pointer, Principal

Einstein ELL News

All ELL students at Einstein have completed the annual WLPT (Washington Language Proficiency Test). All students did their very best on the test and are working every day to improve their English skills. Results of the test will be available sometime in June.

Twenty-five 4th, 5th and 6th grade ELL students (as well as Ms. Roberts, Mrs. Green, Mrs. Price and Ms. Dootson) get up early every morning to start school at 8:00 am. We are currently practicing questioning strategies to promote deeper understanding of what we hear and read. As Albert Einstein said, "The important thing is not to stop questioning."

WE ALL SMILE IN THE SAME LANGUAGE!

Einstein Safety Net

We are excited to announce that Einstein is hosting Redmond Library Family Events again this year!  These events are open to students and their families who are a part of the Safety Net, ELL, and Special Education programs at Einstein Elementary.  Siblings are welcome to attend, but all children must be accompanied by an adult.  Come join us at the downtown Redmond Library for our next event on Saturday, April 23rd from 12:00-1:00.  Come for some pizza and juice, as well as a chance to sign up for a library card, explore the library, and listen to a story.  And guess what?  Every student who attends will go home with a brand new book that is theirs to keep!  See you at the library!

Don't forget to mark your calendars for the other Einstein Family Library Events this year: May 7th, May 21st, and June 4th from 12:00-1:00.  Any questions?  Contact  Michelle Vallene at mvallene@lwsd.org.

News from our Kindergarten Teachers

Einstein Kindergarten is really excited for spring.  We have lots of fun new things we have implemented along with our regular curriculum.

Reading: We now have access to Read Well homework.  Every class has implemented nightly reading homework differentiated to each child's reading level.

Science:

·         We just finished studying teeth. Together the Kindergarten classes did experiments on what happens to teeth if you don't brush them and what happens to teeth if you drink a lot of dark pop. We used our findings from these experiments as our Science Expo project.

·         To go along with the letter Vv we are all studying Volcanoes. Students get to make their own volcanoes and paint them.  We will be making one large volcano that we will make explode after spring break.

·         In the weeks to come we are going to be studying trees, flowers and grass.  In class we will be planting each of these and watching them grow.

Upcoming Field Trips: April- Zoo; May- Snoqualmie Train; June-Farrell McWhirter Park.

Shape Up Across Washington

Einstein is participating in Shape Up Across Washington in the month of April. Encourage your child to participate and earn mileage on an imaginary "journey" across the state. Return the "Mileage Log" and they will be eligible to win Shape Up prizes. Check with our PE teacher, Mrs. Plate, for more information.

Please Put your Children's Names on their Coats

The Lost and Found is overflowing with children's coats left out at recess! If you put your child's "Last" name inside his or her coat, we hand deliver them back to the classroom. If there's no name, it goes into the Lost and Found and waits for its owner to find it. Unclaimed coats are donated to charity a couple times throughout the year.
