Hello Einstein Families,
For those of you that were in the building last Thursday, you probably had the pleasure of smelling the delicious aroma of our lunch entrée that was made from scratch! Our new Kitchen Manager, Linda, prepared homemade Chicken Teriyaki Stir Fry. The kids were very excited to watch the demonstration cooking and to enjoy such yummy fresh food. Linda plans to incorporate foods prepared with more fresh ingredients and will do demonstration cooking more often. We are looking forward to it!
I would also like to take the opportunity to remind you of the Lake Washington School District policy on dogs on campus. Below I have included excerpts from the policy language. "The presence of dogs in and around schools is a controversial subject given the unique relationship between people and dogs in general and between kids and dogs in particular. While there are benefits to be derived through the interaction between children and animals, we also need to be aware of the risks associated with the presence of dogs on campus. Within the past two years the district has had instances of people being bitten by dogs both in school and on the grounds. Additionally, indoor air quality, including odors, can be affected due to animal dander that is present with any fur animal; dander that can be transported throughout the building by the HVAC system... [The policy continues] While most of the dogs that are brought into schools are well cared for, the very nature of a dog being a dog impacts the cleanliness of the campus."
For these reasons, the district has adopted a policy prohibiting dogs on campus. This policy states that dogs are also not allowed on school grounds during the hours in which school children are present unless they are serving as a bona-fide service dog to a staff member, parent, child or visitor.
We appreciate your support in this matter.
Have a great weekend!

What's Happening in our Second Grade Classes?
News from our 2nd Grade Teachers
In second grade we are beginning a new investigation into Pebbles, Sand, and Silt. It will be a messy but fun experience sorting, washing, collecting and discovering new and exciting things about rocks. We will explore map reading, geography and being wise stewards of our environment in Social Studies. We are celebrating our second grade writers as they expand their vocabulary and fine tune their revision skills. All second graders are excited that they can play a full game of Chess now that they have learned about each piece. A highlight this week was our first singing session with Mr. J. We had a full library of 2nd and 3rd graders "Boom, Boom, Booming!" to the beat. Second Graders don't forget to practice daily those math facts so you become fast and efficient mathematicians. |
Do you know why your children love our Music Classes?
The music room has been filled with sounds of Orff instruments such as xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels. We are working on playing grade level appropriate ostinati (repeated patterns) to accompany different songs.
Grades 5/6 started making 12-bar blues music. We learned ways to make chords, blues note, rules of blues, improvisation, and transposing into different keys. We created our own City Blues and will record our performances on the computer and burn a CD of our own class version soon.
Our choir has started on new repertories including artistic, spirituals, blues, and folk styles. We are gearing up for our annual Redmond Regional Concert on March 17th at Redmond High School. Einstein was represented in our district's annual Honor Choir concert on February 3rd at Evergreen Jr. High School by six of our sixth grade students. They are Taylor Buchanan, Olivia Martin, Rianna Steiner, Calyx Baumeister, Alizay Sajjad, and Emily Grabow.
