Principal's Message
Dear Parents,

In the November 18th Otter mail, I wrote about looking at ways in which schools can improve student performance. In the first article I focused on the fact that successful schools had a laser-like focus on student achievement. In the last two weeks and again this Wednesday, December 1st, the Einstein staff is taking that laser-like look at achievement.

The second variable that is extremely important to successful schools and school improvement is the use of time.  Schools that make gains for students made dramatic changes in their schedule.  Although they had the same budgets, requirements, contracts and other restrictions as all other schools, they made remarkable schedule changes. At the elementary level, schools routinely devoted three hours each day to literacy, with two hours of reading and one hour of writing. These schools did not over-emphasize literacy because they did not value other subject areas and content, but rather because they knew that literacy was essential for success in every content area.

Next week I would like to share some thoughts about collaboration and working together.

Thanks,
Karen Bates, Principal

** SCHOOL NEWS **

Red Bucket is here until Thursday, Dec 16th

A reminder that we are still collecting non-perishable food items and unwrapped gifts through Dec 16th in the Collection Red Bucket in front of the office.  Any help you can provide this holiday season will be greatly appreciated by Hopelink and local families in our community. Thank you!

Check the Lost & Found by Friday, Dec 17th

At winter break, Einstein will donate all unclaimed LOST and FOUND items to local charities. If you have any concerns over missing items, please ensure that you or your student check the LOST and FOUND closets. They are located outside the Library. Thank you!

The Health Room Needs Your Help

Einstein is running low on basic items for the Health Room: pants and underwear. If you are planning to clean out your closets in the coming weeks and have any spare clothes available for donation, sweat-pants are the most practical, please bring them to the office. And if your children have borrowed any items this year, please remember to wash and return them. Thank you!

** PTSA NEWS **

Einstein Make and Take Craft Fair on Monday, Dec 13th

Einstein will have a make and take winter holiday craft fair Monday, Dec 13th, from 11:30 am -1:30 pm. Students will have the option to make a craft during their lunch recess, to wrap and bring home as a gift. Please contact Laura D'Urso if you are available to help with this fun event.

Math Night: The Next Family Event is Jan 13th

Mark your calendars for Einstein's Math Game Night on Thursday, Jan 13th, from 6:00 - 7:15 pm. Games are an important strategy in the learning process. They help students focus, give extra drill for reinforcing concepts, and provide an opportunity for children to learn problem-solving strategies in a fun and exciting way. Please join us so that you can learn how to play new games to reinforce your child's math skills at home. This will be a entertaining evening with prizes, ice cream and estimation jar winners.
